Eva's POV

Mark's expression hardened. "It's not like that, Eva," he said, his voice low. "I know I haven't been giving you the attention you deserve, but it's because I've been busy with other matters. And you know how important these meetings are. I need you by my side, to show the other Alphas that you're mine." I sighed. I knew he was right, but I was still feeling resentful. "I know, but I just don't want to do this," I said, my voice sounding petulant, even to my own ears.

"you can't run away from your responsibilities, Eva. You are mine and you belong beside me, do you understand?" He said.

I looked into his eyes, and I saw the frustration there, but also something else. Was it... concern? Worry? I wasn't sure. But I did know that I didn't want to be the source of any more stress for him. He had enough on his plate as it was. "Okay," I said, relenting. "I'll go to the meeting with you."
