88: Insatiable hunger

Elaine’s POV

I couldn't get her out of my mind. Elaine. Her name echoed through my thoughts, an insistent drumbeat that wouldn't cease.

I needed her under my custody, and I needed it now. There was a burning itch beneath my skin, a restlessness that no amount of running in the woods could shake. I had to act.

With renewed determination, I made my way to my office. The evidence, or lack thereof, was what stood between me and Elaine. I had to find something, anything, that could justify bringing her in.

My cabinet had warned me about acting too soon, but they dont understand the urgency I felt, the need to have her close.

I started with the files the cabinet had compiled. Reports, surveillance footage, testimonies—anything that mentioned Elaine or her possible connection to my family’s murder.

My office became a chaotic mess of papers and files as I poured through them, my frustration growing with each passing hour. There was nothing concrete, just whispers and shadows.
