Chapter 3: the Grumpy Vampire

4 am

On the other hand, there was a haunted yet majestic mansion somewhere in the woods. The structure of the mansion might be enough for a small but one of the most powerful vampire family clans called La Croix. But due to the sensitivity of the mistress for said clan, every sound from inside or outside was totally echoing through her ears.

“Argh! When will be the time they will calm down?!” The groaning voice of a beautiful lady vampire and the mistress of the said clan complained to herself about what she was hearing.

“They kept bugging me whenever I’m not using my headphones to cover my ears from them. They became worse and so persistent.” She began throwing anything that her hand managed to grab while she was in her study room.

The beautiful yet grumpy 500yr old vampire lady of the La Croix clan has the name of Mria La Croix. She’s the owner of the La Croix Commercial Building which was located at the boundary of supernatural creatures and human populations.

“Sorry to bother you, my lady. You’ve got a meeting later this morning in La Senteur at 11 in the morning with the design department.” her vampire butler and secretary at La Senteur company that she owns reminded her after a knock. His name was Malik.

“Thanks for reminding me. Anything else you want to add?” Mira clicked her tongue in annoyance due to the noises through her ears but still managed to ask her secretary.

Mira might be the owner of the building but she was also the CEO of the La Senteur which was located on the top of the same building that she owned. Her business consists of different races who are either exiled from their pack or clan; runaways, rogues, or nomads. They were already blended in among the human population and not causing problems at all.

“Ahm, the guards capture fallen rogues late this morning causing fear among the civilians in the boundary.” her butler reported that really caught Mira’s attention even more.

“Bring them to my dungeon and prepare my toys.” Mira get up from her seat and left her desk a little bit messy for the time being before looking by the window, smirking.

“Yes, my lady.” Malik said and left.

She might be the typical cold boss in the human population but she was a nightmare among her supernatural creature kinds. She’s kept the peace in the shadow of the night in both populations through her ruthlessness and tormenting game around her prey. Due to her madness of playing around with her torment, she was feared and looked up to at the same time.

“Since I’m pissed…let’s have them taste my toys.” Mira grinned sinisterly before she emptied the last drop of blood wine in her wine glass before heading to her dungeon beneath her mansion.

Just like that, even in the early morning the birds suddenly began to fly away when a scream of a dying creature came echoing around the woods. It didn’t last since Mira was  finally done with her playing time and let her servants dispose of those corpses without leaving any traces. She went to her chamber and clean herself out as she didn’t like to smell filthy when she roamed around her properties.

“Hm?! What the!” Mira suddenly get up from her soaking tub after having a shower when she noticed something just happened to her.

She tried to cover her ears before removing her hands again then Mira immediately get out of her bathroom as she didn’t bother to cover up her soaking nude body. She looked around and she was totally confused because she was sensing silence in her sensitive hearing which never happened to her before.

“What’s going on?” Mira wondered which made her take a deep breath to calm herself and concentrated on the sudden silence that she was hearing in her ears. But after just a few seconds of her concentration, there were smooth noises alongside the silence that had never happened after she lost her family.

“This is interesting…” she found herself smirking as her eyes began to glow from silver moonlight to pure crystal clear mauve.

Mira was indeed sensing something odd that made her sensitive hearing go into such calmness and silence. Even though it happened for just a few seconds of silence and calmness, it might fade but she was sure that it has something to do with the only person who he’s been eyeing for five years already.

“It's the first time I heard silence and calmness again after I lost my entire family.” Mira smiled with hope in her eyes while looking at the clearing sky. She even started on covering herself with her night robe before heading to her huge walk-in wardrobe.

Wearing her usual black ankle boots, slim-fit black slacks, and black crop top with her crimson coat, Mira decided to do her morning routine by strolling. She went on strolling first around her property in the woods which earned some greetings from her men before heading out of the woods’ border where her commercial building was located.

“Hmm, seem of the humans…filth…” She muttered to herself since she doesn’t drink human blood unless she had no choice. She still prefers animal blood more than human blood since it’s more natural and clear blood.

But there was a scent of blood that she can’t stop from smelling and always made her morning light and peaceful. She went to the MLaCafe that she owns and also was a regular there. She loves coffee especially the comfy vibe that it was giving to her and to add on it, it’s where the owner of the blood that she’s addicted to for five years works at.

‘Hm, I think she’ll be here at the same time.’

“Oh, he’s thinking of me already? Nice.” she muttered to herself when she heard the voice of a particular wolf rogue that she’s been eyeing.

‘There on your twelve, your crush is coming.’

‘Work.’

“So, I’m his crush…” Mira thought as she walked inside the cafe toward the cashier while she was secretly listening to their whispering conversation. The privilege of being a vampire with high sensitivity in hearing.

Mira knew that they were rogue wolves and she didn’t care about some old fashion creatures there thinking about them. They were just dwelling in one place and coexisting and none of them knew that she could hear what they were whispering or thinking about.

“Good morning, Miss. What can we get for you?” The wolf rogue named Luca asked Mira as soon as she arrived at the counter.

“Ahm, the usual.” Mira answered with her cold voice that never failed to make the other wolf rogue shiver a little when he heard her voice. In her mind, she was smirking because she had that effect already on the rogue wolf man who was preparing her order.

“That’ll be fifty.” Luca said and Mira paid them.

With just a few minutes of waiting at the claiming counter, the rogue wolf man that owns the addictive blood to Mira handed her order. But accidentally, their fingertips suddenly brushed against each other obviously the man jolted from the contact. There was an electrifying sensation that both passed through a simple brush.

‘Cold?’

“Here’s your usual brew Robusta espresso.” the rogue wolfman named Angel showed his charming smile that made Mira slightly smirk.

“Thanks.” She replied with her cold voice that still give him shivers in a good way. Mira likes the effect she was giving to him and went to her usual spot near the window.

‘I saw it.’

‘Shut up and work.’

‘What’s gotten into you?! Work, stupid.’

“Hmm…that’s cute thoughts.” Mira smiled to herself before sipping her coffee.

‘Why I am feeling toward a human? Wait, she’s not a human but what is she? I can barely tell.’

“So you can tell that I’m not human…but still puzzling since I’m cloaking myself.” she smirked and watched people walk outside the morning street.

From time to time, Mira could feel somebody or someone was indeed staring at her and whenever she looked over the counter, she caught Angel doing it.

“Let’s tease you a little, pup.” Mira thought to herself and winked over his way which made him blush out of embarrassment.

‘Oh fuck! This is embarrassing.’

“Cute.” she thought as she saw his cheek blush.

Mira studied him from each stolen glance that she was giving to him and she knew that Angel was a hardworking rogue wolf man. She witnessed him grow from a thin build to have fair muscles and a well-fit body that can’t be seen easily beneath his clothing. He was not bad looking with raven messy hair and a slight beard already.

“Not bad.” Mira subconsciously bit her lower lip while staring at Angel who shivered before glancing her way. Catching each other’s eyes, they both smiled at each other but Angel tried his best to hide his blush.

“How long it has been already since I saw him here? Five years? Yeah, I think it's five years already.” Mira thought to herself while smiling while enjoying her morning coffee.

She likes what she was feeling every time she was having her usual morning coffee. But when she glances over the clock on the counter, Mira sighed dejectedly. She knew that she was going to miss watching him.

“His shift will end soon.” She muttered with a sad tone and finished her coffee but her sad sigh turned to a groan due to a sudden irritation.

“Please, don’t tell me, he’s around my mansion again.” Her nice morning was turning to sour because she could sense the vampire she really don’t want to deal with early in the morning.

‘Sorry, my lady…he is…’

“Tell him to leave and if he asks, I’m with the wolves. Also, cancel my meeting this 11 in case he insists on meeting me. I’ll deal with him on my own.” she mind-link her butler with a cold but imperious tone. She alone among her kind can only do a mind-link to her servants like the pack of wolves can do. She’s different from her kind.

‘I will, my lady.’

“I hope it will be better later.” She sighed heavily and then went out of the cafe. But Mira jinx it too early since she still felt the vampire who just paid her a visit was still around the entrance of her mansion.

Mira had no other choice but to cancel her meeting and deal with the stuff that made her nice morning to sour. Reaching her mansion’s perimeter, every servant and guard in the mansion went into full alert mode due to the worse mood of their lady that later will explode.

“GREETINGS, MY DEAREST BELOVED MIRA!” and that certain vampire always never failed to make Mira’s mood worse greeted her day or night badly.

The irk voice stung Mira’s hearing that making her day really not the best one. All of her servants felt her building range and yet, the vampire grinning was totally immune to it. It was not affected at all.

“Care to join me for dinner at a fancy restaurant that every human has been talking about?” Vesmon, a nomad vampire man with too much flowery vibe around him greeted Mira with enthusiasm that only made her mood worse.

“No.” Mira coldly answered as she was trying to control her temper.

Her temper always rose up whenever Vesmon presence lurks around her and just to make it worse, his voice was too loud and had too much womanizer vibe whenever he speaks. Mira felt irritated and it was getting worse with every persistent visit that he was doing to her.

“Please, my beloved Mira, let’s have one dinner tonight.”  Vesmon grinned as he pleaded to her.

“No.” She firmly declined his invitation as she kept walking closer to the main door of her mansion.

“Don’t be so grumpy, just accept me and your life won’t be grumpy as it seems to be.” he chuckled as he tailed her like a lost puppy wagging its tail in excitement.

“Who’s fault was it anyway…” she muttered and clear enough for Vesmon to hear them.

“WHO DID IT I WILL KILL FOR YOU, MY BELOVED!!!” he shouted in anger which made Mira snap.

“YOU.” Mira punched his face which made him stumbled onto his footing and fall out of the main entrance of her mansion. He rolled down to the grand staircase of the mansion where some guards around held their laughter.
