Chapter 25: Negotiate with the enemy

Throwing away my ragged shoes, I almost forgot the pain in my knees as I felt bare feet on the fresh grass beneath my feet.

“Complete your final challenge instead of wallowing in that nonsense.” Ryan's dry voice echoed in my head, though I couldn't see it; I could imagine his disgruntled grimace as I wasted my time.

“Is it possible that Ryan has never saved a second in such a wonderful space when participating in the challenge? Indeed, people do not know how to appreciate beauty.” I grumbled.

Once again, Ryan directed me in his voice. “Erza, your puzzle lies in the ancient tree ahead, go there and find the answer.”

An ancient tree came into view, and I reported to Ryan. "I've seen it; I'll be right there now."

I strolled to its side, touching its rough wood, rosemary scent filling the air. But I couldn't see any questions for myself; I walked around the tree trunk and looked down at the stump, but nothing.

A thought flashed through my head in the foliage.
