Chapter 26: The last hurdle, pass it.

"Why?" I frowned.

"It's carved into a tree branch." Roger stared intently at the foliage. “Need me to read to you?”

"Okay." I nodded.

There is one thing to admit, Roger's voice is effortless to listen to, warm, and very gentle. “I have, you don't, you have, I don't have. You need I don't need; I need you to need too. I feel dry; I need your life; give it to me with all sincerity."

After reading it, Roger frowned, unable to hide the displeasure on his face. “What does it say? What is needed and not needed, yes and no?"

I was concentrating on thinking and was also irritated by Roger; he jumped to the ground and said. "It needs your life, you just kill yourself here, and you'll pass through the gate."

“Can you be quiet for a moment?” I glared at him.

Roger shrugged as if it was nothing serious; he boredly picked flowers and stacked them on each other, muttering to himself. “Wanting life, this tree is smart.”

The first hour passed, and I still didn't know what this tree needed from me.
