Chapter Four: The Alpha

Ashley was dumbfounded because she wasn't expecting Frederick to sniff her hair. Luckily for her, she was wearing a wig and also added the perfume the witch gave to her to hide her wolf scent.

'What lie can I make up now to convince him?' Ashley asked herself while thinking of a cover-up.

" Are you not paying attention, I said who are you!?" Frederick yelled with anger because he thought Ashley was ignoring him thereby making her a threat.  Ashley stood there with her head bowed. 

She was still there trying to form something up when a hand yanked her towards the elevator. 

Immediately they entered the elevator, Frederick shoved her and she slam her back on the wall of the elevator. He then came forward towards her and grabbed her by the neck.. raising her body to his eye level.

" You think I didn't know that an assassin was sent to kill me? I know the scent of everyone that is working for me in this company but yours is different, who are you!?" 

Ashley fought to withdraw the hand from her neck but couldn't. She was no match for the alpha. However, her survival instinct kicked in, she tried kicking him at his dick but Frederick eluded her leg and constricted his hand on her neck more.

Ashley toiled to breathe. She kicked, and fought, but nothing seemed to be working. She wanted to try one more skill which would work but doing it here would do nothing but convince Frederick more that she was an assassin therefore exposing her secrets and motives.

Soon the rising elevator reached its destination and halted. The elevator opens revealing an old woman with white hair and wrinkles on her face standing in front of the door with shock on her face.

The woman looked at Frederick before looking at the lady whom he wanted to strangle this morning and she turned out to be the lady she interviewed yesterday. What must have transpired between them? 

However, her shock soon turned into apprehension when she saw Ashley almost losing her breath. She instantly rushed towards Frederick to help free Ashley from his hold.

" Frederick, what are you doing? Don't you know she's a widow?" The British woman inquired with fear while trying to pull Frederick's arm away from Ashley's neck. " Do you want to kill her? Please stop this madness now" 

" She is a threat. She needs to perish!" 

" What! Are you out of your mind? This is a weak feeble woman who is trying to look for a way of survival. This woman has done absolutely nothing wrong to deserve this treatment!" The British woman begged with empathy. Looking at Ashley's pale face, her heart bummed out the most.

Frederick gazed at Ashley's face but the pale-looking face with tears on them made Frederick weak so he released his hand from her neck and the woman collapsed on the floor, gasping for air. 

" I will be back for you?" Frederick announced and left the elevator immediately heading to his office. 

The British woman rushed towards Ashley and helped her get to her feet even though her breathing was still fast.

" Kathie, are you okay? " The woman asked with worry.

" Yeah. I think so" Ashley replied while arranging her gown. " He hasn't changed, I see" 

The woman's face turned into a state of confusion when she heard Ashley's last words. Have they met before?

She narrowed her eyes at Ashley and asked with confusion, " What do you mean?" 

" Never mind. Let me go continue my cleaning" Ashley said and left there immediately to avoid further questions, leaving the woman in disorientation.

When she returned to the corridor, Miriam was still standing there with pure rage. This situation was what she was avoiding, but now it had occurred. And it was all because of this good-for-nothing cleaner who ruined a perfect day. 

Without asking questions, Miriam rushed forward to bounce on Ashley but this time, Ashley got her hand before it could reach her cheek. She struggled to release her hand but to no avail.

" Let me go, you slut!!" Miriam screamed as she felt her bone shifting from her original position. Hearing her scream, Ashley pitied her and left her hand immediately.

" I'm going to get you fired from here you bitch!" Miriam declared with a painful tone as she carried her arm while heading towards the elevator.

Frederick hadn't been this angry before what must have happened that made him so angry because this wasn't the first time he had met the building dirty. But what was confusing for Miriam was the reason why Frederick Sniffed the cleaner's hair because that only happens between mates.

At the office, Frederick was pacing around the room with so much thought running through his mind. And it was all about Ashley.

' Her scent felt familiar but misleading as well. How can someone have two different scents at the same time or was it my nose deceiving me?' Frederick asked himself in his mind because nothing seemed to be making sense. 

Frederick was still in his mind when a knock was heard on the door.

" Who is it?" Frederick questioned with annoyance.

" I am the one, babe" Miriam's soft and attractive voice was heard behind the door. 

" Come in" 

Although her arm wasn't hurting anymore, Miriam carried it with her other hand to show everyone that someone nearly broke her arm. However, to her disappointment Frederick was facing the other side of the room when she entered.

Noticing that he wasn't happy, Miriam walked slowly behind and started massaging his shoulder to relieve his tension.

After seeing that Frederick had relaxed to her touch, she seductively went to his ear and whispered.

" Babe, when are you going to make me yours, not just an ordinary secretary in your industry? I'm tired of people looking down on me" 

" But you are not my mate. If I marry you now, it will not only cause problems for us but will also cost me my throne" Frederick explained gently as he relaxed more to the touch.

Hearing this from him, Miriam stopped the massage and walked to his front so she could look into his eyes. Those captivating brown eyes.

" But there's no other way  you can get a mate because Ashley is still out and as her long-time friend, I can tell you that she doesn't give up easily"
