Chapter Fourty: False Alarm

Ava's POV

My hands flew to my neck to remove the pendant when I realized it wasn't there. I became frantic as I tried to remember if I put it on from the house and when I realized I did, I began to search my bag. I emptied out all the contents of the bag and searched the tiny compartments but I found nothing. I also wondered if I took it off while taking stuff upstairs but I couldn't remember anything. Beads of sweat started forming on my forehead, the walls of the parlor began to close in on me and the air in there was no longer enough for me.

"Ava, calm down, relax, breathe" I stretched out my arms and he took a hold of it. The next thing, I heard him inhaling and exhaling repeatedly until I began to breathe in synchronization with him.

"Where did you learn that?" I asked after I had finally calmed down,

"Let's just say I am very observant and I have a photographic memory."
