Chapter 41: The Truth

EMILY:

"Hey, are you alright?"

This was the 10th time I was asking Anita this question. She rolled her eyes at me like she always does without giving me a reply, but even after I got a reply the previous times I asked her, I still wasn't assured and I kept worrying about her.

"I'm gonna hit you if you ask me that question one more time."

I chuckled. "Stop kidding me, Anita. I know how much you're holding up, but you aren't too good at hiding pain, you never were."

"I just woke up, Emily, and so I ought to feel even a little pain. I'll heal, I promise."

I took her hand and held it in mine, smiling, "I thought I'd lost you forever Anita." I was trying hard not to cry because I knew she would scold me if I did. "I'm so sorry I didn't come to look for you after what Alexander did to you. I didn't come to check up on you, and for that I'm sorry."
