Astrid's POV:

I struggled to get away from Gamma Patrick’s firm grip on my hair while Lucas tried to help. But Gamma Patrick shot him a glare, and he backed off. I bit my lip to prevent myself from crying, vowing not to break down in front of Gamma Patrick. My desperation and fear excited him more than anything, and I didn't want to give him the pleasure.

He peered at me with venom. “You’re shamelessly meeting my eyes now? You’ve forgotten your lessons.” He pushed me harshly against a banyan tree and fixed his gaze on my belly, clenching his fist. The vile look in his eyes had me fearing for my babies. A pool of anger rose inside my chest, my motherly instinct to protect my offspring. “You will never touch me again, you filthy dog!” I screamed.

“My little bitch,” he said with a sneer. “I’m happy to be a dog for you. But first we need to get rid of those creatures growing inside you, then we’ll work on your language!” He swung his fist, and it met my jaw before I could move. I tasted b
