Chapter 5

Mira’s POV

He wants me to be his maid, his plaything for entertainment. Tears streamed down my face as I recalled his last words. Despite enduring a lifetime of slave-like treatment, I never expected my mate to treat me this way.

While being a maid is a life I am accustomed to, the idea of sharing my body with a man who belittles me and refuses to accept me as his Luna is something I cannot tolerate. I glared at him, vehemently shaking my head.

“You believe it is unfair to you, don’t you?” He laughed mockingly as I stood defensively, clenching my fist and glaring at him.

“What’s unfair,” he drawled out each word, “is that I am burdened with a weak, pathetic mate.” Through gritted teeth, he poked my head with his thumb. But I refused to let his words affect me as I stared boldly into his eyes.

“Lower your eyes when I speak to you,” he commanded, stepping closer. Before I realized it, he slammed me against the wall and grasped my neck. Gasping for air, I struggled against his hold, trying to make a sound but failing.

Tearfully, I looked into his eyes, hoping he would release me, but he didn’t. Instead, he pinned me harder against the wall, tightening his grip on my throat and making it nearly impossible to breathe.

Desperately kicking and scratching him in an attempt to break free proved futile until suddenly he let go and I fell to the floor, coughing and gasping for air. Clenching my fists in anger, I wanted to tell him that just because I am mute doesn’t mean I don’t feel pain and that being an Omega doesn’t diminish the intensity of that pain. We heal slowly, like humans do. Omegas experience ten times the pain an Alpha feels when wounded. But no words escaped my lips, only panting and coughing.

“Whether you want it or not, Mira,” he said, “you will be my maid and plaything.”

My eyes widened as he mentioned my name. I never disclosed my name to him, so how did he know?

“Don’t be surprised that I know your name,” he sneered.

“I have many sources. It’s amusing how you are from the enemy pack that once destroyed mine. If it weren’t for the mate bond, I would have thought your father sent you here.”

“Listen here,” he began, about to finish his sentence, when a guard burst into the throne room. Whispering something into the Alpha’s ear, the guard’s words sparked the Alpha’s interest. As he nodded along, his gaze kept returning to me.

Straining my ears to listen in on their conversation, all I could make out were the words “ready” and “good.” Giving up on eavesdropping, I focused on brushing the dirt off my skirt.

Then, I heard the Alpha say, “Let’s go.” As he pulled me out of the throne room, I couldn’t discern if he was leading me back to the dungeon or his quarters.

My heart pounded as I desperately tried to devise an escape plan. We arrived at a building resembling a clinic, and confusion replaced my fear.

“Why did he bring me here? What was his plan?” Upon entering, doctors and nurses paused their work to bow in greeting to the Alpha, who nodded curtly in response.

A female doctor from the clinic approached and asked, “Is she the one?” “Yes, inject her with the serum and send her back to the pack house. She’ll find her way back,” he replied before leaving with the guard.

Terrified, my heart raced as curiosity gnawed at me. What were they planning to inject me with? I longed to escape, to run out the door. The doctor gestured toward a bed in the corner of the room as a nurse stood nearby, syringes in hand.

Panic washed over me, intensifying my fear. I had been to the hospital numerous times after beatings from my pack, and I despised needles and hospitals.

They made me feel light-headed and vulnerable. As I turned toward the door, prepared to flee, the nurse restrained me.

“Stay still. It’s the Alpha’s order,” she said soothingly.

“And it won’t hurt, I promise.” But the nurse laughed snidely, her voice dripping with malice.

“Oh, don’t listen to her,” she sneered. “Believe me, it stings like hell.”

I looked at the doctor, panic-stricken. She glared at the nurse and scolded her for adding unnecessary fright.

She turned to me and reassured me, “Don’t worry, it’s just a shot of suppressant. It doesn’t hurt.” Suppressants? Why were they giving me suppressants? I stared at the doctor with wide eyes filled with terror.

“Don’t be scared, okay? This is for your safety. You’re a Stealer wolf, and it would be dangerous for you to wander alone since all the unmated and widowed wolves are after you, With this suppressant, we’d be able to cage that stealer wolf in you, and make your scent unperceivable for them. I hope you understand what I mean?”

She asked, staring at me with warmth in her eyes. I felt like I could trust her because she was the first to look at me without hate and disgust, so I nodded.

“It’s going to sting a little, okay?” The doctor smiled, and I nodded.

I closed my eyes as she raised the syringe. My heart raced and my breath caught in my throat as I waited for the sting of the needle. I felt a quick pinch as the needle touched my skin, and then it was over. I relaxed, letting out a slow breath.

“There, all done,” she said, giving my cheek a light pinch. I smiled at her in gratitude.

“Carrie, escort her back to the pack house,” the doctor ordered. Then she turned and left.

I had been walking silently beside her when she suddenly stopped and blocked my path. I signed ‘What’s wrong?’ with my hands.

She looked down at me and laughed, a cruel smile on her face. “So the rumors are true. You are mute,” she said.

“Listen up, the Alpha is mine, you hear? I don’t have to worry about you. He wouldn’t even look at you, let alone touch you, don’t even dream you can seduce him,” she laughed, leaving me all by myself.

I stood there, feeling ashamed and humiliated. I knew that I could never compete with her. She was beautiful, strong, and confident, while I was none of those things. I felt like a failure, a weakling, a disappointment. I continued my walk to the pack house.

I almost got to the pack house when someone pulled me into the small bush by the pack house.

“Mira,” I recognized that voice anywhere. I started shivering, scared that he was here to punish me for leaving. I covered my head, expecting a blow which never came.

“Mira my child.”

Where did that come from? My mouth opened in surprise at the words coming from him. I was always called mute and useless by him. It sounded strange and dangerous coming from his mouth.

“The pack needs something from you, my child. I know you’ve always wanted to make me proud and be recognized within the pack, so I need your help with something urgent,” he said.

I signed for him to continue, but he signaled to me, asking me to come closer and when I did, he whispered into my ears.

“We need you to kill Alpha Navier and gather some information about the pack.” My eyes widen in shock.
