Loud cries filled the basement, waking me from my light slumber. I groaned and blinked my blurry eyes as I tried to adjust to the dark. "I can't believe you're actually cutting it," Charlie said as she carefully pulled half my hair into a long braid. The other half already braided and resting over my shoulder."Yeah, I can't even remover the last time it was short," I said as I played with one of the braids. I felt a bit nervous to cut my hair off. The feature I held the most pride in, but I felt it necessary. My hair was carried with it painful memories of rough fingertips and harsh yanks.
