Chapter Thirteen

Emily’s POV

It was a lie. Everything I had believed in had been a lie . That's all this whole world was to me right now. A lie, an abomination, a disgusting thing.

Everything. Even the sun seemed to have abandoned its orbit around the planet, the sun that I knew as home with every fibre of my being; and yet here I was in outer space, alone in the cosmos, surrounded by nothingness and light and color and heat. It had to be a trick, there must have been some cosmic joke, but there wasn't, because when you've been through hell and back and survived, there isn't any point in laughing at a joke, not even your own. Not unless you want to live through it all over again a second time. But life had taught me that wasn't how things worked out. I had never laughed before. I didn't really believe there were things beyond death anymore.
