Cassy POV
The nerve of the man!
I looked at him and saw the sincerity in his eyes, but why can’t I believe him?
Caleb spun so many lies in the past that I never trusted any of his words.
“When we divorced, I already accepted that my children would grow up without their father and I, a husband. Now, you wanted to rectify your mistakes and rebuild our family as if those three years never mattered. What about me? What about all the things I endured in the last three years?”
“I moved on. I no longer need you.”
I saw his face twitch. Undoubtedly, I hurt him with my words, but we have to set our boundaries here. Caleb is acting too close for my comfor
Caleb POV “Don’t chop my head off!” James said while we were having a few rounds of beer in my bar. I already sent Cassy and the kids home after a two-day stay at the resort, but I was restless and anxious. When Greg invited us for a drink, I was about to decline but later changed my mind. Maybe, a few drinks is what I needed to clear my head. But hearing him talk about Cassy made me see red. “Calm your t*ts man. I was just impressed with your wife, nothing more. Cassy was truly savage out there, even you know it.” James added. We were talking about Cassy’s marvelous wakeboarding skill back at the resort and James’ reaction to it. I hate to admit it, but James was right. I remember when the kids and I started looking for her, and James told us that she enrolled in a wakeboarding class, I was in so much hurry. My heart raced wildly in my chest. I thought she was doing it recklessly out of anger. Panic and fear mingled as I rushed out, kids in tow. I ran to the beach, bu
Cassy POVI just left the children’s room and accidentally looked at the time on the wall clock at the end of the hallway. The long hand was pointed at the number ten, while the shorter hand was just past the number twelve.I got down expecting to see Caleb, but he was nowhere in sight.I sighed, knowing he already left without informing me.As if by tacit understanding, after we arrived from our two-day trip from his resort, Caleb attended to the kids while I stayed in my bedroom.I did not manage to go out of my room to join them for dinner. I got busy with my laptop reading all the notes Norma sent me last week for the annual investors&
Cassy POVThe following morning, Caleb, as usual, arrived just when the children and I were going down for breakfast. The kids screeched to a halt when he got inside, arms loaded with an elegant flower arrangement.I don’t want to assume things, but my heart leaped and started hammering on my chest at the sight of the romantic blooms. My inner voice warned me to be cautious, and of course, I did not want to assume just like before, but my heart failed me again. It could not help from beating wildly in my chest. It almost hurt.“Happy Valentine’s Day, baby.” Caleb strode quickly to us and knelt in front of his daught
My breath hitched.I vaguely remember Tory bringing a bouquet into my hospital room when I first came to.Before she came in, there was a noise, and it sounded so much like two people arguing. It did not matter back then, but now….“Adam threw you out, didn’t he?”Caleb nodded.“He learned that I paid the hospital a hefty donation to allow me access to the delivery room.” He laughed awkwardly as if the reminder embarrassed him.I grappled with the new information. He was there. The realization hit me so hard
Cassy POVNorma nodded and went on to explain, “So far, the shares were divided in the following order: Cassy Burke, forty percent, Caleb Kingston, thirty percent, Adam Burke, ten percent, Martin Crest, Cole Higgs, Tony Richardson, and John Collins, with five percent each.”There was a round of applause as everyone rose from their seats to congratulate each other with a simple handshake or clap on the back.
Cassy POVShould I brace myself for future confrontations like this one?I hate to admit it, but Caleb and Adam are permanent fixtures in my children’s lives. One is their biological father, and the other is their uncle. If this is a sample of what every day with them would look like in the future, then I have to arm myself with loads of patience, or I might die of a heart attack later from these two.
Cassy POV"Adam....""What?"I pursed my lips before telling him what I wanted to say.“Thank you. For always being there. I may not be vocal with my feelings, but for me, you will always be the best brother.”My face contorted while I reined in the feeling of gratitude that threatened to overwhelm me.Adam stood up and walked to my table. He sat near the edge, facing me. This time, I met his eyes and saw his understanding.“You are my only sister, Cassy, and I will always look out for you.” He said.I nodded.Adam stood up and stretched his arm above his head. Then, he ruffled my hair like he used to do when we were kids.“Ugh! Not my hair!” I shrieked, surprising the two of us.Adam laughed
Cassy POVPutting up a hand to stop him from getting ahead of himself, I went on to explain.“This is for the children.”The exuberant expression on Caleb’s face slightly dimmed.“I do not believe in divorce, neither do my parents. And you already told me about your stand on this. So, for our children’s sake, let us try to make this work, hmmm?”The light was back in his eyes.Caleb nodded and stepped closer, bringing us toe to toe.The unexpected sudden movement made me look up, and our eyes met.I don’t know how to define the expression I saw in t
