Chapter 2 Here Comes The Worse

"W-what? Fired?" Audrey's eyes widened. "B-but, professor Lyle, you can't do that to me!"

Professor Lyle Foster snorted and narrowed his eyes fiercely. "Why can't I do it? You have clearly neglected your duties and you are still on probation? Do you know what would have happened to Mr. August Dane if Doctor Avril had not replaced you? He would have ended up ridiculously in the room as a dead body, his family will sue this hospital and revoke all its shares, then all the hospital staff including me and you will lose our jobs and get bad recommendations as doctors who neglect patients!" Professor Lyle shouted emotionally.

"But, professor, Mr. August operation list was two o'clock in the afternoon and I left a message with doctor Avril that I'll be out for a while at lunch and come back before surgery," Audrey said in an annoyed tone.

Professor Lyle slammed a pile of documents on the table and looked at Audrey fiercely.

"What do you think of sick people like Mr. August be told to wait according to schedule? Haven't I told you many times that you have to stand by Mr. August scheduled for surgery today? The disease is chronic and can recur at any time so we must always be ready to move when the condition suddenly worsens! You, leave before lunch and come back two hours before his scheduled surgery? And uh, you smells like alcohol? What kind of doctor are you?"

Audrey took a deep breath and lowered her head. She admitted her mistake. However, she had been careless and carried away by emotions. She should have stayed in the hospital and done her job well, instead of thinking about her unfaithful lover and betraying her with her best friend.

"Yes, professor Lyle, I plead guilty. There was a problem that happened and it messed me up for a moment. But, I promise I won't do it again. I'm willing to accept punishment but please don't fire me, professor. I really need this job."

Professor Lyle snorted. "No, Doctor Audrey. What you did was fatal for a doctor. You abandoned a patient who had put his life in your hands. Be grateful because I respect your intelligence and previous performance so that I am still willing to give you a fair letter of recommendation, so that you can still look for another job, at least in a clinic outside the city. However, I don't need you in this hospital anymore!" Professor Lyle said firmly.

He handed Audrey the document he had slammed on the table. "Go to the personnel department. They have prepared your recommendation letter, salary and bonus this month."

Audrey couldn't do anything else. Professor Lyle's words were final. Wearily, she carried the document that was handed to her, out of Professor Lyle's study.

Doctor Avril Lander stood in the corridor not far from Professor Lyle's office, crossing her right leg over her left leg and blowing her nails in an artificial manner. Next to her, in a tense manner, was doctor Kylen Diaz.

"Ah, Doctor Audrey, so you finally got fired, huh?" said Doctor Avril in a concerned tone.

Audrey looked at the female doctor wearing heavy make-up with annoyance. Doctor Avril always tries to curry favor with senior doctors and apparently secretly she is also trying to compete with Audrey, who is often praised for her good performance.

"Why didn't you tell Professor Lyle that I had asked you to replace me in Mr. August's place?" Audrey asked irritably.

Doctor Avril snorted. "Why should I say it if it's not beneficial for me? You only showed up two hours after the actual surgery schedule and you think it's my fault? It's you who makes mistakes because of your arrogance! Good bye, Audrey!"

Doctor Avril sneered sarcastically and turned around with her chin raised, then left while humming softly.

Doctor Kylen Diaz put his arm around Audrey's shoulder in a warm friendly manner. Audrey tried to push away the senior doctor's embrace and walked a little away.

Doctor Kylen Diaz is known as a senior doctor who likes to tease his nurses and junior doctors. The man was a widower, divorced three times and thought he was handsome and admired by many women.

"You know, Doctor Audrey, I have many friends at other hospitals," said Doctor Kylen in a calming tone. "I will ask one of them to accept you to work at their hospital. How about it, do you want to?"

Audrey turned to doctor Kylen. "Are you serious, Doctor Kylen? Can you help me?"

Doctor Kylen patted his chest and smiled broadly. He approached Audrey again. "Of course, darling, I will help you. You just bring all your application documents to my apartment tomorrow night at eight. I will cook a delicious dinner for you and provide high-quality wine."

Audrey looked at the middle-aged doctor angrily, stepping backward. "You are trying to seduce me, Doctor Kylen?"

"Come on, Doctor Audrey, you need a job and I can help you. But before that, we need to chat more intimately and get to know each other better, do we?"

"Stop your bullsh*t and leave me alone!" Audrey shouted out and was about to leave.

Audrey realized what the playboy doctor meant. He often approaches Audrey and tries to flirt with her during this time, being flirtatious and excessive. He must have thought that a distraught Audrey would be easier to approach.

Doctor Kylen took a step and stopped her. "You should know, it's very difficult to find a job these days, even if you're an excellent doctor. You should be gratitude for me interested in your a*s!"

"Oh, you should be ashamed, Doctor Kylen." Audrey sneered and stared at Doctor Kylen's midsection. "How can you be so confident in asking a woman to sleep with you, with your weapon which is only the size of a pocket pistol? You should at least have a magnum pistol so you don't keep getting rejected by the woman you sleep with!"

Doctor Kylen's face turned red when he heard Audrey's bold words. "You will be unemployed! After being fired from here, I promise you won’t get any offer!"

"That's better for me than sleeping with a shameless old fart like you! Go to hell and sharpen that little di*k  of yours, D*mn cad!"

Audrey raised her middle finger and walked quickly, leaving Doctor Kylen stunned.

Audrey walked unsteadily out of St. Farine. She sighed and continued walking towards the cancer rehabilitation clinic on the edge of town. She got on the bus and thought about what she should do after this.

She must immediately get a new job because it requires a lot of money. Her adoptive mother, whom she loved so much, was being treated there because she was suffering from stage two lung cancer and the distance from her house to the clinic was very far, so Audrey decided to rent a room in the clinic so she wouldn't have to go back and forth every time her mother needed chemotherapy.

Audrey had just set foot in the clinic grounds when her phone in her bag rang. Audrey turned her steps to the park next to the clinic and sat on one of the park benches.

"Hello?"

"Sunshine cancer rehabilitation clinic, good afternoon, Ms. Audrey, doctor Elard Saga will speak with you," said a soft-spoken woman.

"Oh, okay, thank you," said Audrey. Not long after, a man's voice was heard on the phone.

"Hello, Ms. Audrey, can we talk for a moment about your mother's condition?" said doctor Elard, who had been treating Audrey's adoptive mother.

"Sure, Doctor Elard, please."

"Well, Ms. Audrey, after several rounds of chemotherapy, last night I ran a test to find out Mrs. Ella's latest condition and I am very sorry to inform you that your mother's condition has worsened."

"What? How could that happen, doctor?"

"Ms. Audrey, as you know, for cancer patients, chemotherapy can be a double-edged sword. Mrs. Ella's body reacts negatively to chemotherapy and for that we must immediately carry out surgery as soon as possible."

Audrey was stunned. She listened to Doctor Elard’s next words with her mind wandering all over the place until the doctor ended the conversation.

Her adoptive mother needed surgery immediately and needed a large amount of money for it. Audrey's head felt heavy hearing the number mentioned by doctor Elard and she sat stiff like a robot on a park bench.

She gave up her intention to visit her adoptive mother in the room, realizing that the limits of her strength might collapse when she met the kind woman's shady eyes.

Audrey lowered her head between her clasped hands and did not notice the arrival of two men dressed in black approaching her.

"Ms. Audrey Jace?"

Before Adurey could react, Her eyes were covered with a black cloth.

She was kidnapped!!
