Chapter 5

The peace in the ward was immediately destroyed the moment Jill stepped through the door.

Calla frowned in disdain. It was clear that Jill and her side of the family were there to fight for Cedric's inheritance. They never even visited him since he fell ill.

"Can't you just let Dad rest in peace in his final moments?" Maurice asked angrily.

JIll immediately stopped acting sad and snapped, "Cedric is on his deathbed, Maurice. Shouldn't he tell us about the inheritance of the house and the reimbursement of funeral expenses by the government?"

"Dad isn't dead yet. Besides, the government will only reimburse us after Dad's passing."

Maurice was an honest and straightforward man. He was no match for Jill when it came to arguing.

Then, Rudy chimed in, "Maurice, you can't expect to take all the money for yourself. We're both Dad's sons."

"You…" Maurice's face paled from anger.

Tasha quickly went up to him and supported him. She said worriedly, "Are you having a heart attack?"

"That's right, our family deserves a share of Grandpa's money too!" Peggy said.

Tasha helped Maurice to a chair. Then, she turned around to reprimand Rudy and the others.

"Rudy, how dare you even try to lay claim to Dad's property? Where have you been all these years he was sick? It's one thing for them, but you're his son. You didn't even come to visit him when he was sick. How can you be so heartless?"

Rudy didn't have a leg to stand on, so he didn't reply.

On the other hand, Jill was still fanning the flames. "Tasha, we don't mind if you and Maurice want a bigger share for yourselves. But there's no need to act as if you have the moral high ground. You took care of Cedric because you're after his pension, right?"

Tasha's face flushed in anger. She pointed at Jill and said, "Our family has not seen a day of peace ever since you came in. You're a jinx!"

"Who are you calling a jinx?" Jill asked as she stepped forward aggressively.

"Who else other than you?" Tasha scoffed at Jill.

"I know you've never liked me, but don't you dare think I'm a pushover. Let's just square off right here, right now! I'm not afraid of you!"

Jill rushed over and started to fight with Tasha, who was quickly put on the back foot since she was quite old.

"Stop fighting!" Maurice yelled. He tried but couldn't get up from the chair. Meanwhile, Rudy tried to intervene, but he didn't know how to stop the fight between Tasha and Jill.

"Mom, let her have it! Teach her a lesson so she won't dare to look down on us anymore!" Peggy continued to egg Jill on.

After a while, Jill managed to grab Tasha by the hair and slapped her on the face twice.

Calla saw that and knew she had to break them up before Tasha sustained a severe injury. So, she immediately went up to them and tried to pull Jill away.

Tasha was finally able to get free. She instantly slapped Jill.

Jill was infuriated. She shrieked, "You brat! How dare you take her side!"

Then, she shoved Calla, who staggered and ran into the bed's railing. The pain caused her to sweat.

"Rudy, are you dead? Your wife is being bullied, but you're not doing anything? Are you even a man?" Jill called out to Rudy.
