4: Vulnerability not allowed

Ken’s eyes became so big for a moment I thought it would pop out of its socket. I raise my hand to stop him from exclaiming and drawing unwanted attention and point to my head, telling him to communicate telepathically with me instead.

“This is the man you called an asshole.” His voice charges into my head like he speaks through a microphone.

My eyes flutter and I feel like snapping at him to reduce his goddamn voice, but I can’t. So I press my lips together and nod.

“Wait, how do you know he’s the one?” he asks, his gaze darting over at the man standing beside Mrs Adams and then over to me.

I point to my nose, which can smell his scent, and then up to my brain, which assimilates. Yes, it was dark, yes I barely saw his face, but I saw and smelt enough to identify anyone and this man right here was the same as the one I saw a few days ago.
