5 In The Hospital

“Please inform them that I have realized my mistake, and I'm here to apologize.” Hailey fell on her knees and pleaded with the gatekeeper to beg her parents to please come to her rescue.

Just after her knees completely touched the sandy ground, that's when it dawned on her that she had sustained injuries on both of her knees.

“Ahh…” she shrieked sorrowfully and quickly stood up to avoid causing the injuries to flow out more blood.

“I'm sorry, madam, but I can't go in there to talk to your dad. He might end up slapping me. He doesn't look like someone ready to listen to your pleading. Just respect yourself and go away.”

The gatekeeper explained to her as he attempted to close the gate, but Hailey quickly stopped him from doing so by protecting the gate from closing.

“Please do not do this to me. Have you forgotten who I am? I'm your boss's first child.” she boldly spoke, thinking that she would scare the young man.

“I don't care who you are to my boss. You have been disowned by him, and he would rather not see your face again. I'm only obeying instructions he gave me.” the young man smirked.

“Charlie, do not do this to me, please. Alright, then if you're scared that he would shout at you again, then help me with my mom's phone number, please.”

“No! I'm not giving you any of their numbers,” he replied to her and furiously slammed the small gate and locked it from the inside.

All hope was lost for Hailey because she had nowhere to go again if not her father's house.

Inside the house, Mr. Grayson and his amiable wife, Mrs. Amelia Grayson, sat on the couch in the living room.

Both of them were in their early fifties with only two children. Hailey, and Eric. A girl and a boy.

“Honey, you should forgive her since she realized her mistake and decided to return home.” Mrs. Amelia begged her husband.

“Just shut up, woman!” Mr. Grayson smacked and frowned at his wife. “ That disobedient lady you called your daughter can't be welcomed into my house. When she had publicly disgraced and disappointed me.” he seriously announced to his wife.

“I know how hurtful it is. It also pained me when she disobeyed us and went ahead and married that young man. But she is here to apologize. Can't you just accept her as your beloved daughter?” Mrs. Amelia insisted.

“My beloved daughter, my footstool. As long as I'm concerned, I don't have a daughter. I have only one child and his name is Eric. Apart from him, I do not have any more children.”

“But…”

“Can you just stop arguing with me? Don't let me get angry at you because of Hailey, please. Since the day she left this house, I have disowned her as my daughter. I woke up with a smiling face today. No one should ruin my mood, please.”

Mr. Grayson spoke without a trace of a joke on his face. He was enraged and never wished to hear anything concerning Hailey.

In the living room, a boy of ten years could be seen walking down the staircase as he held a phone in his hand. He just woke up from sleep.

He didn't go to school that day because it was the weekend. As he was walking downstairs, he overheard his parents arguing.

Eric decided to stop halfway down the staircase to eavesdrop on what his parents were discussing.

“Do not provoke, woman. Hailey would never step into this house again, even after my death. Let her remain outside the gate. She can go back to wherever she came from when she is satisfied standing there.” said Mr. Grayson.

“Huh? Sister Hailey is at the gate?” Eric's words came out like a whisper after he heard what his father said.

With haste, Eric ran toward where his parents were sitting and glaring at each other.

“Good morning, Dad. And good morning, Mom.” Eric greeted his parents and without waiting for their response, he rushed out of the living room.

“What had come over him?” Mr. Grayson was lost about how Eric greeted them and ran away without waiting for their responses.

However, Mrs. Amelia sensed that Eric might have overheard them discussing Hailey, that's why he decided to go and welcome her.

Instead of responding to her husband, Mrs. Amelia began smiling uncontrollably, making her husband more confused.

Before Mr. Grayson could realize what Eric was up to, it was too late.

“Eric,” he screamed his son's name as he stood up from the couch to go after him.

Immediately, he stood up, Hailey and Eric entered the living room.

“Mom, my lovely sister is back at last,” Eric announced as he firmly held Hailey's hand and led her to their parents.

With tear-filled eyes, Mrs. Amelia quickly spread her arms and engaged her daughter in a tight hug.

The two women began sobbing as they passionately embraced each other before Mr. Grayson.

“Ahh…” Hailey shrieked painfully as if someone punched her.

Mrs. Amelia quickly let go of her and curiously asked, “ What's wrong, Hailey?”

Before Mrs. Amelia could shut her mouth, Hailey had thrown up the food she ate the previous day.

Just after a second, she began to feel dizzy.

“I…” Hailey was about to say something but suddenly collapsed in her standing position.

“Hailey! Hailey!” Mrs. Amelia called out as she fell on her knees and shook Hailey to wake up. “ Honey, do something, please.”

“I have nothing to do with her. She doesn't need me. Let her husband come and take her to the hospital.” Mr. Grayson retorted and returned to the couch he was sitting on earlier.

“Call the driver to quickly come and rush her to the hospital,” she said to Eric as she ignored her husband.

“Yes, Mom.” he quickly responded as he ran towards the entrance but met the driver coming in with some of Hailey's luggage.

“My sister is dying. Please keep this aside and rush her to the hospital.” Eric informed the young man, and he did exactly as Eric said.

Hailey was taken to the car and rushed to the hospital and Mrs. Amelia went with them as she rested Hailey's head on her thighs.

Mr. Grayson never cared about what just happened to Hailey because he never wanted to let her enter his house.

Just after a few minutes, they arrived at the hospital. Hailey was rushed to one of the wards in the hospital.

Mrs. Amelia was unsettled because she wasn't ready to lose her daughter. It has been years since they saw each other.

Now that they have finally seen each other, and this just happened to her?

Ohh no…!

Hailey shouldn't die now, please…

Mrs. Amelia and her driver were asked to wait outside while the doctor attend to Hailey to know what was wrong with her.

The woman was pacing up and down in the corridor as she eagerly waited for the doctor to come and inform them whether Hailey was still alive or not.

The only statement Mrs. Amelia was scared to hear from any medical personnel was when the person said, “ I'm sorry to announce to you that…”

That statement can crush a thousand bones into dust.

Immediately, the doctor stepped out of the room, Mrs. Amelia and the driver quickly walked up to him.

“Doctor, is she still alive?” Mrs. Amelia curiously asked.

“Yes, ma'am. You have nothing to worry about. I have good news for you.” The doctor responded with a smiling face, and Mrs. Amelia was a bit relieved.

“What good news?” she inquired as she gazed at the young man in his lab coat standing before her.

The doctor averted his gaze to Mrs. Amelia's driver and extended a handshake to him.

The driver was lost, but he took the doctor's hand anyway.

“Congratulations, sir.” Dr. Derrick mistook the driver for Hailey's husband.

“Huh? Congratulations?” the driver mouthed after him. “ For what, please?” he curiously inquired, but Dr. Derrick only smiled at him and took off his hand.

Dr. Derrick averted his gaze to Mrs. Amelia and announced to her, “ Congratulations, ma'am. Your daughter-in-law is pregnant.”

“Huh?” Mrs. Amelia's mouth widened as she gazed at Dr. Derrick.
