I hold my pace steady as I run around the track. Even though I finished my twenty laps, I don’t stop. I keep running, feeling each movement of my muscles. I notice Tyler walk over to the sidelines and sit down. He seems to be done. I can feel him watching me as I run. One by one, the other runners finish their twenty laps. I wait until the last runner is seated before joining the group. “Did you enjoy your run?” Tyler asks. “Yeah. I usually run twice that far, but it was a nice warmup,” I reply. Tyler looks surprised. He opens his mouth to speak, but closes it when the instructor starts talking first. “Your next station is core. Meet your core instructor in the smallest weight room within the next fifteen minutes,” he instructs. Our group gathers together before walking there. A knock sounds from the study door, drawing my attention as well as Tyler’s. We have been working together more often as I deal with my work remotely rather than commuting to the office. “Come in,” Tyler calls. The door swings open to reveal Cole with a thin stack of papers. “We have a slight issue,” Cole states. “What do you mean?” Tyler asks. “The rogue attacks have been growing more frequent. We don’t know the cause of them, but here are the reports on each attack for you to look over,” Cole explains. “Thank you,” Tyler says, taking the papers from Cole. “Have there been any casualties?” “None as of this time. Our warriors only sustained minor injuries. All attacking rogues were either killed by our warriors or killed themselves in our cells. We haven’t been able to get any of them to talk before they are found dead,” Cole replies. “Alright. Arielle and I will look over everything and make a decision. Tyler’s plan is far more complicated than mine. He is going to call our neighboring packs to ask for assistance in fighting the rogues. His goal is to be able to join forces and wipe out all of the rogues in the surrounding area. "Alright. Thank you. See you soon," Tyler says. The phone clacks as he returns it to the receiver. He sighs and rubs his forehead with his hand. "How did it go?" I ask. "Pretty well," Tyler replies. "Five out of the seven packs agreed to meet with us to discuss our plan." "Why did two of the packs refuse?" "The one is at odds with our pack. We have disagreed many times in the past and they are refusing to cooperate once again. The other wants nothing to do with the rogues. Their alpha believes that helping us will increase the attacks against them," he explains. "That's stupid," I comment. “Thank you for joining us here today to discuss the issues of the recent rogue attacks,” Tyler says. “Are Grim Ire and Crescent Star not joining us?” Alpha Richard asks. “Both packs declined our invitation,” Tyler informs them. He opens the laptop that sat on the table in front of him. With a few clicks, a report shows up on the display screen along the wall opposite where Tyler and I currently sit. “These are the statistics of the most recent rogue attacks on Moonfang. We have not been able to connect the attacks to a certain group of rogues, nor have we been able to determine if there is a mastermind behind them or not,” Tyler explains. “Do you have any ideas as to why someone would want to attack you?” Alpha Mitchell asks, turning to face us. Tyler and I both glance at each other, but remain silent. “Spill it,” Alpha Roman demands. “The two of you know something. Alpha Roman closes the distance between us quickly. I watch for his movements to signal his first attack. Sure enough, his right arm tenses and draws back. I duck to the side only to watch as his fist flies through the area where my head was. Alpha Roman lurches forward as his momentum carries him further than he thought. Taking advantage of this lack of balance, I place a hand against his back and push him away from me. The alpha stumbles forward several steps. I back away from my opponent as he slowly turns around to face me. Alpha Roman’s face is a mask of fury. His eyebrows are drawn together into a frown and one corner of his lips is pulled up into a snarl. His eye twitches as he stalks forward. Whoopsie daisy. After our meeting with the other packs’ leaders, the rogue attacks died down. They were fewer in number and lower in strength. Tyler and I began to relax, as did all of our pack members. On my morning stroll through the pack, I notice that the warriors on guard duty are slacking off. Many of them are sitting and chatting at their assigned posts. They are supposed to be watching the woods for any sign of an attack. I continue my walk, now determined to see what the rest of the warriors are doing. The members of each post that I pass are relaxing and chatting, only glancing towards the woods occasionally. This is bad. How can our warriors protect the pack if they are not prepared for a fight and watching for danger? I make my way back to Tyler’s office. “We need to talk,” I say, bursting through the door. I push it closed behind me and wince as it slams shut. “What about?” Tyler asks. “We need to tighten our security. I just walked past all of the guard posts

“It all started when I was eight,” Clay begins. He leans against the stone wall across from me and folds his arms. “My parents decided to begin successor training for my brother and I. Being the eldest twin, I believed that I alone would be trained to become alpha. It is my birthright, after all. However, my parents believed that the twin who showed greater promise as a ‘leader’ would step into the position of alpha while the other brother supported him.” Clay leans his head back against the wall. “During the main classes we displayed our aptitude for different skills. My brother was good at written skills, so his grades were always the best. He read books all of the time and my parents always praised him for his great ideas. I, on the other hand, specialized in physical skills. Where my brother was good at reading, I was good at fighting. My parents didn’t appreciate this whatsoever. They always complained that my grades were too low and that I should focus more on studying

Rough hands brush over my legs. My eyes fly open and I immediately fling them off only to find myself face to face with Clay. "What are you doing?!" I growl. "Calm down," Clay orders. "I will not calm down!" I reply indignantly. "How dare you touch me. Especially while I amsleeping." "What do you mean 'how dare I'?" Clay replies. "You are mine. I can do whatever I want to with you and you have no say in the matter." His eyes are wide and look around wildly, as if seeing an imaginary opponent. "I am not yours," I refute. "I don't belong to anyone." "You are mine," Clay repeats. He closes the distance between us and reaches for my legs once more. "It's time for me to get what I want," he says as he touches my shin. I kick his arm away and he lets out a stream of curses as he cradles it. "That hurts, you know. I wanted to do this properly and keep you awake, but if you are just going to fight me, I'll have to put you to sleep." Clay reache
