Mate's Resistance

Let go of me.

Mate's Resistance

King Alex's POV

I can't believe what just happened. I had never experienced being treated this way before. A human woman slapped and threatened me. Was it because she was my mate that she was able to slap me? I had been searching for my mate, but now I had lost her.

"My king, we need to go back," Marcus said.

"Do you see what happens now, Marcus?" I asked. "That girl claims she is my mate."

"Claim? She's your mate, my king?" I stared at him.

"Stop saying nonsense, Marcus," I warned. "She isn't my mate. Maria is. She will be my queen after that girl gives birth to my child."

"Sir, but she is your fated mate," Marcus uttered. What is wrong with him? Was he trying to talk in favor of her because she was my mate?

"She should be your queen, not Maria, sir." This was the first time he had talked this long with me. If not for the fact that she was still useful to me, I would have killed her.

"She has no qualities of a queen," I spat. "She is not capable of leading my people. Do you see her well? How can I crown someone like her as my queen when I have a pure and innocent girl like Maria? Maria is the only one fit to be the werewolf queen. My Queen."

"But." He tried to speak, but I shunned him.

"Enough." I cut him off. "I don't want to hear you speak. Let's leave."

I was about to step out of the club when I spotted her. She was about to leave as well. I gazed at her. My blood began to boil. It felt as if I should have murdered her.

"Get in, Marcus. We need to follow her." I quickly entered the car and followed her. "Don't let her spot us."

"Yes, sir." I sat in my car, watching her say goodbye to her friend. When she entered her house, I got out of the car. This is where she has been living.

'Do you notice as well?' I asked my wolf, Keen. 'You can smell the familiar scent.'

'Yes. It belongs to one of our people,' Keen responded. 'What the hell is she doing here in the human realm?'

'I don't know, but we need to find out who that scent belongs to, Keen. If she is a wolf, then that girl must be her daughter.'

'Are you sure of this, Alex?' Keen asked.

'I'm not sure, but I will find out about this. I wonder why she smells like a human.'

I stood patiently by the entrance. Marcus stopped me as I was about to enter the house. He stared at me with a puzzled expression.

"It's late, my king. We should come back tomorrow."

"Do I look like someone who has the time to do that, Beta?" I questioned. "I should go see her. I'm sure she's the reason I've been searching for my mate for so long, with no success. She must know the tradition of sending their daughters to me, yet she breaks the rules by running away with her. She needs to be punished."

"My king."

"She must face the consequences of that," I vowed. "How dare she do that?"

I was still speaking with my beta when I heard footsteps. With speed, I grabbed my Beta, and we hid.

"I believe you're going in, my king," he mocked. "I don't understand why you're hiding."

"Yes, but I can hear her steps. Maybe she doesn't reside here."

"Oh. Really?" He sneered.

"I need to watch and see what's going on, Marcus."

She came out, and she was still dressed in the exact clothes she had been wearing when I first saw her. She looked around as if she had detected my presence.

"Where is she going?" I whispered. She was heading to the woods behind the house.

"You should wait here, Beta," I ordered. "I need to follow her. I will be back."

I started to follow her as she wandered deeper and deeper into the woods. At this point, I didn't need anyone to tell me she was a wolf. I had no idea why she smelled like a human.

"Who is this?" She bellowed. Damn, she must have noticed me. "Show yourself."

Despite the darkness, I could clearly see her. I loved the way she looked. She looked so scared. I should frighten her even more. I let out a threatening roar, making her shiver. She stepped back. In the blink of an eye, she ran. Haha. I didn't know that I could find something so amusing.

I went back to Marcus, who was still waiting for me.

"Let's go. We'll be back tomorrow."

***

I awoke early. I got dressed and walked downstairs. Beta Marcus was already waiting for me.

"Are you ready?" I asked.

"Yes, sir," he replied.

"Good morning, Mr. Alexander. Your breakfast is ready."

"I'm sorry. I won't be able to eat. I'll be right back," I stated.

"Sir, are we still coming back here?" Marcus questioned.

"Of course. We're not done here," I mumbled. "Why should I go back to the pack without her? She's someone important to me and Maria."

"But what if she's a human?" Marcus asked. "She won't be able to bear the snarl of our people. You need to think deeply about this issue."

"We'll find out about it when we get to her home."

"Then, if she's a human, what will you do?" he asked again.

"Why should I care about her?" I angrily said. "She's only my mate, since she'll bear my heir."

Our drive to her home was silent. I could feel his rage, but he didn't dare to protest. I got out of the car as soon as we arrived at our destination. I knocked on the door.

"Lisa, did you forget something?" The voice asked. She pushed open the door. She took a step back when she saw me. "My king."

"It's you, Mary." I smiled.

"What are you doing here?" she questioned me.

"You know me too well, Mary. Do not ask me silly questions," I growled at her.

"I'm sorry," she articulated, bowing her head.

"Are you not going to invite me in?"

"I'm sorry. Come in, my king."

As soon as I stepped in with my beta, I looked around and saw her pictures on the wall. She looked cute, but she wasn't my type. "Is she the one?" I questioned her, turning to face her. "My mate."

"My king." She refused to answer me. When I began questioning her, she'd have no choice but to answer all of my questions. I took my seat.

"Sit, Mary," I commanded.

"I'm okay like this, my king," she uttered.

"As you like. So, Mary, tell me why you're leaving the pack. Nothing but the truth will do," I warned. "You already know what will happen if you lie."

"My king, I'm sorry," she begged.

"Answer my damn question," I howled. "What makes you do that? Why did you leave with her, or were you forced to leave?"

"No one forces me, sir," she answered back.

"Then why did you leave? Answer me, Mary." I howled.

"Nothing, sir," she replied.

"I'm not here for all this, Mary," I warned. "Do not test my patience. Answer my questions."

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left," she muttered, shaking.

She refused to tell me why she left with her daughter. She sealed her mouth and carefully chose her words in front of me.

"Where is she?" I asked.

"She isn't home, my king," she replied. "She left for work."

"Work? Where is her place of work?"

"I don't know, my king," Mary responded. This wasn't going as I wanted. She was the only one who could help me get her.

"Sooner or later, I will get her." When I rose to leave, she grabbed the hem of my clothes. "What do you want?"

"Please," she pleaded as she fell to her knees. "Do not take my daughter away from me. I don't want her to be your concubine."

"What?" I snarled. "She was destined to be mine the moment you gave birth to her. She's my mate."

"She isn't your mate, my king," she wailed. "I don't want her to be your mate."

"What!" I yelled.

"Everyone knows who you have feelings for," she cried. "You love her, and I don't want my daughter to be in pain. I don't want to witness her tears." She burst into tears.

"I'm here to take what belongs to me," I sneered. "Nothing is gonna stop me. Let go of me."

"I won't do that, not until you promise to stay away from my daughter."

I got down on my knees and grasped her face. "Why should I do that when she is useful to me?" Her sobs got more strident. "She will become my concubine and bear my child in place of Maria." She was getting on my nerves. I got to my feet to depart, but she grabbed my legs.

"Enough?" I stared into her eyes. I could see she wasn't ready to let me go.

"Okay. Okay. I will let her go after she gives birth to my heir."

"What?" She screamed. "No. I won't allow that. Over my dead body."

I smirked at the arrogant person in front of me. "Then you have to die."
