Laura's POV

I glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Sonia, my best friend. It brought a smile to my face as I hadn't spoken to her since yesterday when I told her I would be staying at her apartment in London. She had given me all the necessary information to make my stay comfortable. I picked up the phone, settled myself comfortably on the bed, and answered.

"Hello, babes, how are you?" I asked.

"I'm fine, babe. I was just checking to see if you've settled into my apartment already," she said. I could hear her mother's voice in the background, probably nagging her about something. I recalled my own relationship with my mum and how it could be similarly amusing. Sonia mumbled something to her mum and moved away until her mum's voice was no longer audible.

"Is your mum giving you a hard time?" I inquired.

"Oh, in so many different ways I can't even start explaining right now, babe," she replied with a hint of annoyance. "Isn't she supposed to be helping me get over the death of my bo
