Chapter 49

Laura's POV

He motioned for me to walk before him. I didn't want to obey him, but I didn't want to start an argument, so I just did as I was told. I got down from the jet and looked around; we were at an airport. I saw a convoy of three cars with a black limousine in the middle.

Bodyguards surrounded the cars. I didn't need to be told; they were all Nicholas' men. They were there to take their boss home. I did a head count of the men, and there were about twelve of them.

They greeted Nicholas as we got close and opened the door. Nicholas let me go in before him, and when he got in, the car was shut. He glanced over at me, and I held his gaze for a few seconds before looking away. I went farther away from him to the other side of the car and looked out the window. He pulled me back close to him slowly. I didn't resist, but I didn't look at him either.

"What's wrong, Laura?" he asked with a concerned voice. Typical of him to ask me what was wrong when he knew the exact answer to that
