Laura's POV He motioned for me to walk before him. I didn't want to obey him, but I didn't want to start an argument, so I just did as I was told. I got down from the jet and looked around; we were at an airport. I saw a convoy of three cars with a black limousine in the middle. Bodyguards surrounded the cars. I didn't need to be told; they were all Nicholas' men. They were there to take their boss home. I did a head count of the men, and there were about twelve of them. They greeted Nicholas as we got close and opened the door. Nicholas let me go in before him, and when he got in, the car was shut. He glanced over at me, and I held his gaze for a few seconds before looking away. I went farther away from him to the other side of the car and looked out the window. He pulled me back close to him slowly. I didn't resist, but I didn't look at him either. "What's wrong, Laura?" he asked with a concerned voice. Typical of him to ask me what was wrong when he knew the exact answer to that
Laura's POVI glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Sonia, my best friend. It brought a smile to my face as I hadn't spoken to her since yesterday when I told her I would be staying at her apartment in London. She had given me all the necessary information to make my stay comfortable. I picked up the phone, settled myself comfortably on the bed, and answered."Hello, babes, how are you?" I asked."I'm fine, babe. I was just checking to see if you've settled into my apartment already," she said. I could hear her mother's voice in the background, probably nagging her about something. I recalled my own relationship with my mum and how it could be similarly amusing. Sonia mumbled something to her mum and moved away until her mum's voice was no longer audible."Is your mum giving you a hard time?" I inquired."Oh, in so many different ways I can't even start explaining right now, babe," she replied with a hint of annoyance. "Isn't she supposed to be helping me get over the death of my bo
I already had a good guess as to who it would be. Who else but the boss of the house himself? I opened the door and to my surprise, he wasn't the one. A tall, slender, beautiful lady stood before me."Hi, Madam. Mr. Nicholas asked me to check on you," she said."Oh really? Where is he?" I asked."He is downstairs, ma'am, waiting for you," she replied with a smile. Judging from her clothes, I could tell she was one of the housekeepers. She looked so beautiful it made me jealous. Nicholas obviously did this on purpose, hiring these beautiful girls to come work in his mansion."Okay, tell him I'll be with him in a minute." She nodded and left. As soon as I shut the door, I went straight to the beautifully furnished cushion in my room and sat down. I had wanted to go downstairs before the housekeeper came, but now I would wait for an extra ten minutes before going down. I didn't want Nicholas thinking I came as soon as he called. Petty, right? Yeah, but I don't mind. After I was sure ten
Laura's POV: "I think you misunderstood me even before I had been given the chance, Laura," he said calmly. "I thought you…" "Well, you thought wrong," he interjected firmly. "How would you even think I would refuse Sonia, your friend, from coming over?" He scoffed and said, "It appears that after the weeks we have spent together, you still know nothing about me." He threw his hands in the air in disbelief. I wondered why he was making a fuss all because of a statement I made. I didn't know anything about him? Is he kidding me right now? Of course, I know a lot of things about him, especially how he loved fucking different women without giving a hoot what any of them thinks. I also happen to know how risky his world is. The world of the mafians, filled with wars and blood spillage. One could literally be alive today and dead tomorrow in his world. Human life is not regarded at all. The taking of too many hard drugs has hardened their minds, making them see humans as animals. I re
Nicholas POVI entered my room feeling incredibly frustrated and angry. Why did Laura have to say what she said? After everything I have done for her, how could she insinuate that I didn't want Sonia, her friend, to come over? Is that how petty she really thought I was? A whole me, Nicholas Brandson, with everything I have, bothered by having her friend spend time with her?Women! So typical of them. You do everything you can to please them, and they take you for granted whenever they want.Despite still being hungry, I left the dining table in anger. Argh, Laura! What would I ever do with you? Look how petty you made me act!I took out my phone from my side pocket and dialed Abraham's number. He picked up almost immediately. Somewhat embarrassed about what I was going to ask of him, I cleared my throat."Abraham, I need you to listen carefully," I said."Yes, boss," he said with a hint of mockery in his voice. He usually doesn't call me boss; whenever he did, it was either to tease o
Nicholas's POV:We both looked towards the door simultaneously. I already knew what to expect and who it was, but she didn't.She looked at me, expecting me to ask whoever it was to come in. What I was avoiding was about to unfold right in front of me. This was all her fault; if only she had left when I asked her to instead of barging in the way she did. Before I could stand up to ask whoever brought the food to take it back, Laura was already at the door. She opened it and upon seeing who it was, she looked over at me in surprise."You asked for food?" she asked.I rolled my eyes and lay back on my bed, "Of course, I asked for food. That wouldn't have happened if someone had let me eat in peace," I snapped, realizing as soon as the words left my mouth that I was acting like a 6-year-old, and that was all Laura's doing. She had been making me tap into the younger version of myself trapped somewhere within me."I already apologized about that, and if you were really hungry, you shouldn
Laura's POVHe looked over his shoulder at me and smiled. I greeted him and sat on the low sling beach chair beside him."This view is perfect," I said."It certainly is," he replied. I could feel his eyes on me, making me feel insecure and uneasy. I shielded my eyes with the sunglasses I had brought with me to appear more confident. He looked behind him and snapped his fingers at a heavily built bodyguard. The man approached."Ring the kitchen and tell them to get us some drinks… what would you like?" He asked, looking at me."An orange juice will be fine," I replied. He turned his attention back to the bodyguard, "Tell them to get some orange juice and a bottle of one of my finest red wines.""Okay, boss," he said and left."I didn't think I would look out from the balcony of my room and see you seated here on the beach this morning," I said, looking over at him.His long lashes cast a beautiful shade around his eyes as the corner of his lips curled up in a smile. "I actually love m
Nicholas' POVShe just has a way of getting on my nerves, doesn't she? What was that about? She wanted to smack me on the face? The audacity! How did I get here? I paced around my room, my thoughts raging. I was distracted by a call and pulled out my phone from my pocket to see who it was; it turned out to be Carlos."Where the hell are you?" I vented over the phone, transferring my aggression to him. He was supposed to be back already; what was still keeping him from showing up?"I am about to get on board, boss. I will be back by noon," he said hastily.I rolled my eyes, my anger not dissipating in the slightest. "So why are you calling?""I heard what happened, boss. I wanted to know if there is anything you would want me to do." He wasn't being specific."I don't understand, what did you hear?" I asked frantically, on the verge of losing my patience."I heard one of the shipments was attacked yesterday. Josiah told me when he called, thinking I was with you," he replied calmly."O
