Chapter 7: Taste

After devouring all the food on the table, Daniel looked at the scene in front of him and couldn't believe it. Daniel really couldn't believe he could eat all this food alone. How long has it been since Daniel felt he was living like this?

No more boring dishes, or hard-to-swallow condiments. It's all meaningless. He had once again tasted familiar flavors. The taste that he will never forget until the day he dies.

Suddenly a tear fell on Daniel's wounded palm. The burning pain came, awakening Daniel who was still bewildered.

Why is he crying? Why? The reason why, Daniel does not know anymore. Perhaps it was because he felt emotional when he found something long lost.

That's right, this is the taste. The taste of familiar dishes. The taste contains love in every dish that his mother cooked for him before. Thinking that after so many years, those beautiful memories would be buried forever in the past, today Daniel can once again find them.

Like a child searching for his lost toy. Daniel rushed out of the room and ran to the kitchen. When he got there, everyone in the kitchen was startled by him.

As I was struggling to clean up in the kitchen, I heard the door open loudly. I looked over and saw Daniel, I saw his messy hair. Just woke up. Clothes are ragged, even house slippers are not worn. I saw that his face was a bit panicked, making me bewildered as to what was going to happen.

"Who cooked today's food?"

His urgent tone with a hint of emotion made me think he was angry. Everyone in the kitchen at this moment was also confused by his actions and didn't know what to say.

"I ask…"

"It was me who cooked."

Before Daniel's words were finished, my mother who was washing the dishes inside also came out, even though she did not understand the situation. But when I heard Daniel ask that, I also reflexively answered him.

"Is it an aunt?"

“Is something wrong, master? What's wrong with the food?"

Daniel looked at my mother puzzled but then said nothing. I can see his lips move as if he wants to say something. But the words came to his mouth and then stopped.

"Leave it, it's nothing."

After that, Daniel left, leaving us all looking at each other bewildered. I couldn't understand what he wanted to do either. He was still angry earlier, but now he left as if nothing happened.

All his actions are so confusing, I don't know what he was thinking.

After leaving, Daniel returned to his room. Close the door and then Daniel sat down next to the door. Hold your forehead with your hands and tilt your head back.

“What am I doing? It's just a dish. Is it necessary to overdo it?”

Daniel kept questioning himself and fell silent again.

Daniel then went to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and looked at himself in the mirror again. This form is truly pathetic.

Daniel looked at his hand again, saw the blood on his hand again, and remembered what happened at noon. Just now, in the kitchen, it seemed that she also saw that girl.

Daniel felt that this girl looked very strange, never seen before. But he didn't care, he simply assumed that it was just an employee in his family. If he doesn't remember her face, it's not a big deal.

It was just that he found this girl particularly troublesome than the others he had met before.

As someone who works in Daniel's family, at least they can hear how bad Daniel's personality is. Other people, if not deliberately avoiding him, or pretending to be happy in front of him, were all outsiders who wanted to take advantage of him to dig up information from him. Because he is the hole in this family. He is delicious bait for the wild beasts out there to tear apart.

At this point, Daniel's heartfelt pain again. Although Daniel always tries to appear unconcerned or pretend he is unaffected by other people's words. But, every word, every action, and every gesture affects Daniel a lot.

After finishing a tiring day at work, my mother and I were sitting on the bed massaging each other.

“Just now was the first time I saw Master Daniel.”

“…”

“The owner looks like Mr. James, his face is handsome.”

“…”

“But his appearance just now looks like something happened. Mom thought it was a problem with the food, but unexpectedly he said it was nothing. Do you think it's because mom's cooking doesn't suit his taste?"

“…”

“Vivian, did you hear me?”

"Yes, I heard you say that."

Mom looked at me with suspicion but then didn't ask any more questions. I could feel her insecurity and anxiety.

"Don't worry Mom, I think it's okay. He said nothing. If there's anything he doesn't like, he'll tell us."

Mom looked at me with unease that still couldn't let go. But the fact that even I don't know what he's thinking, how can I tell my mother for sure?

"What's wrong with your hand, it's all bruised."

I was startled by my mother's find out. I quickly pulled my hand back and hid it aside.

"Don't worry Mom, I just wasn't careful and fell."

"Is that true?”

“Don't you believe me? I have no reason to lie.” Mom looked at me worriedly. But since she trusts me, she doesn't doubt me anymore.

"Is there nothing wrong with you?"

"You always tell me the truth."

How can I tell my mother the truth that my injury was caused by Daniel? If she knew, my mother would be very worried.

“If that's the case, be careful, we've only just been hired here. Let nothing happen.”

"I know, Mom, don't worry. Let's go to sleep now."

Although I never wanted to lie to my mother. But in these cases, I think my lie is harmless. If I can make my mother worry less, I think this lie is not too much.
