Chapter 14

However, when Kathryn met Markus's sharp gaze, she shivered. Any thought of escape was immediately forgotten.

"Are you okay?" When she still remained immobile, Markus's gaze sharpened. Kathryn snapped back to attention at once.

"I'm fine!" she said as she made her way to his desk. Markus turned his laptop so that she could see the screen, which showed her supporting Chris. It looked like the time when she'd helped Chris back to his room.

Kathryn's mind went blank again. Thankfully, before she could figure out how to react, the footage became a mess of black and white dots. Clearly, it had been damaged. Kathryn breathed a sigh of relief when she saw it.

Nodding, she told Markus, "That's right, that's what Tally and I saw. We watched the entire night's worth of footage, but we didn't see anyone go in." She should know because she'd been in the room the entire night.

Now that the surveillance footage was well and truly damaged, no one except her, Tally, and the security guard they'd bribed would know what happened that night.

Just as she was feeling relieved, Markus looked across the desk to the other man and said, "This is it. Please help me restore it."

Kathryn's relief evaporated as she froze again. In bemusement, she looked at Markus, then at the man, who was dressed in all-black casual attire. "Who's this?"

"This is Brian Winchester, the IT Director from the Jackdale branch."

Brian Winchester! Kathryn knew this name. He was the best IT technician in the company. Chris had tried to transfer him over to the headquarters several times, but Brian had always rejected the transfer. Kathryn hadn't expected them to ask Brian for help just to find a woman.

Brian took Markus' laptop and whistled. "No problem. I'll get it done!"

Kathryn broke out in a cold sweat, dampening the back of her shirt. She was completely done for now. The air around her seemed to thin as she tried not to panic.

It took her all her effort to get herself together. "Is there … Is there anything else you need from me?" she stammered, still in shock.

Markus shook his head. "No. You can go back to work."

Kathryn nodded. "Okay." Feigning composure, she turned, left the office, and immediately made a beeline for the fire escape. Closing the door, she took out her phone and called Tally.

Tally was having a meeting with a client outside. When she got Kathryn's call, she picked up and said hurriedly, "I'm busy!"

"Tally, we're done for!"

"I know, you've said this many times. We aren't yet, are we?" Tally had had enough of Kathryn's senseless panicking.

Kathryn sounded close to tears. "Markus is getting help from Brian Winchester to restore the footage we destroyed that day."

"What?" Tally leaped to her feet.

Kathryn paced around anxiously. "What should we do? What should we do?" She was panicking. As soon as Brian restored the footage, Chris would find out that she hadn't come out of his room that night. And seducing the CEO was one of the most serious crimes one could commit at the Albert Group.

"I don't know!" Tally was as panicked as Kathryn. Once the footage was restored, they would probably find out that it was she who'd destroyed it in the first place. For a moment, Tally felt that this was the worst thing that had ever happened to her.

Hearing that, Kathryn burst into tears.

"Go and ask for the day off," Tally said hurriedly. "I'm coming back now."

Things were getting out of control. This wasn't something they could lie their way out of.
