EIGHTY NINE

We arrived at Leo's penthouse in a convoy, the minivan’s tyres crunched over broken glass and debris from the lack of attention Leo had apparently shown the building. Its once beautiful exterior seemed to be as ancient and decayed as the man himself. The eerie silence that greeted us was unnerving, an unsettling herald of the devastation I feared lay ahead. I pushed open the door and stepped out, my pack trailing behind me with a palpable sense of dread.

"Something is off." I heard Someone whisper, and although I was inclined to agree, we had no choice but to delve into the unknown.

The entrance to the building was shattered, shards of glass scattered across the marble floor. I took a deep breath, trying to steady the rising nausea as we moved through the wreckage.
