56: She’s Innocent

Arnold’s POV

Thoughts of Layla’s wellbeing had dominated my mind even while I was with my father, so the minute I got a chance to get away from him, my heart instinctively led me toward Layla’s chambers as did my wolf’s incessant whining about his need to confirm that she wasn't dealing with the aftershock of my father’s attack poorly.

In a few determined long strides, I’d arrived at her chambers and I knocked softly and waited for a response. After a few minutes without getting a response from her, I’d gotten worried and let myself into her room without thinking twice.

However, the minute I staggered into the room, I halted my steps as I heard her snoring lightly and saw that she was covered in her duvet and fast asleep. I let out a heavy sigh of relief just before I gently shut the doors behind me such that I wouldn't startle her with the sound or cause her to stir in her sleep.
