Chapter Twenty-Eight

It was an odd call.

  Caleb knew this to be true, because never in his wildest dreams, had he imagined Nolan would call him. They weren’t the best of friends, hell, they were barely acquaintances. With he and Nolan, it was more of an impasse, a cold war if you please. Nolan had never approved of Caleb’s status as an Alpha, which had always amused Caleb, when he wasn’t downright annoyed by it, because Nolan was only a few years older.

  At the time, Caleb had not quite gotten over the loss of his father. Deep in grief, he had done and said some unsavory things to the council, and Nolan was incensed. He had called him everything from volatile to immature, and had sponsored an entire campaign to have him stripped of his title. There were others more capable, to be Alpha, Nolan had argued. There had been quite the row between them both, Caleb had even challenged him in a fight to the death for control of both packs. It had taken months
