Chapter 27 The Only Choice

Selen's POV

It's been a month and still no word from my father. Every time Lola's phone goes off anxiety builds in my chest. I'm terrified someone will call with the worst news and I will have to live knowing I wasn't there for my father in his final days. Lola is consistent with the vague updates.

"The doctors say he is showing some improvements, they are hopeful he will be able to be woken up soon."

It's always the same line. I have it memorized like it's a verse in a song. Pierre calls and texts me often asking when I will fly to him, but he too withholds information from me. He is adamite I fly to France in order to see my father but won't disclose his condition. Still using the marriage as my only saving grace. I can't concentrate on my schoolwork and being in that building has become suffocating. Desmond has done his best to keep me sane through it all. I moved out of the guest room and into Desmond's room sleeping next to him brings me so much comfort that I crave right now. O
