Chapter 21: Court Part 9

I couldn't believe the audacity of Ethan, my ex-husband. He had the nerve to call me pretentious just because I had a lawyer backing me up. I raised my eyebrows, my heart pounding with annoyance, and resisted the urge to slap him across his smug face.

Ethan grunted and take his phone. He then proceeded to call someone, intentionally amplifying his voice so that everyone in the police station could hear. "I'm at the police station," he said, his voice dripping with arrogance, "and I need you to come as soon as possible. I'll pay you a thousand dollars an hour as a legal brush."

I snorted in annoyance at Ethan's show off. He was the CEO of a startup, not a super big company either. He thought he was so important, but in reality, he was just a small fish in a big pond. The smell of his cologne, a cheap knockoff of a designer brand, wafted through the air, making my nose wrinkle in disgust.

It was very different from the scent of the perfume worn by Eddie.
