03: Billionaire Mom

Wait, who is the boss? Me?

I flinched as I watched the elderly man make his way toward me with concern etched on his face.

“Boss, you are finally awake. We were scared that we would lose you.” He said, taking me by even more surprise.

“What do you mean by that?” I drawled, hoping I did not sound like a novice.

“Oh! Oh! Oh! My bad! How could I have forgotten?” He hit his head as he rose to his feet, bowing slightly. “Sorry for that. Anyway, I am Bishop and I am your personal assistant. The man your father put in charge to bring you back to the Holly Empire.” He said with a proud and bright smile.

I narrowed my eyes on him. Did he get the wrong person? I was an orphan. I was made to believe my parents had died in a fatal car accident that happened years ago and I had to get on with living. Even though there were times I felt like I would give up and would even feel jealous of other people for having loving parents.

I swallowed hard, shaking my head as the information was too much to take in. “You must have gotten the wrong person. There's no way I would be the heir. You know what? Thank you so much for paying my bills. I will repay you when I have gathered enough, okay?” I said and Bishop seemed shocked.

“You don't believe me?” He asked.

I shook my head. “No, not that. It is just that—”

He did not wait for me to finish what I wanted to say. He pulled out his wallet and brought out a miniature picture. Extending it out to me, he raised his brows. “Does that image look like you when you were younger? And the locket?” He asked as I collected it from him.

My fingers trembled as I saw the direct copy of myself and the locket that was still around my neck. I instantly reached for the locket. “This...” I trailed off.

“You must be wondering how we found you. We have actually seen you and I tried to approach you but every time, things happen, you disappear and after your divorce, I decided that I was going to approach you. Unfortunately, you got into that accident and here we are.” He twisted his lips, knowing he had said something that I'd rather choose not to deal with right now.

I slowly nodded, letting this new information sink in and for the next few hours, he explained to me about the Holly Empire. I had questions but he told me that after I got better, he would answer them all and I believed him, even though I was tempted not to.

I would not let my past handling of people affect the way I see people now. Bishop brought me everything I needed and he was the companion I never thought I could have. He stayed by me and answered every one of my calls.

• •• •• •• •• •

Bishop was an older man. He should be hitting his early forties if I was not mistaken. He had been patient with me all the days I was admitted. Even nurses who came to check on me commended him and went ahead to ask if he was my father. I did not know how to feel at the fact of someone being my father so I gave him a nervous smile, hoping they would step out of the discussion and leave.

Finally, I was being discharged today, and he had been the one to take care of it as usual. I climbed off the bed, feeling my legs again after weeks. The first time I tried to walk, I stumbled back and hit my buttocks on the floor. The day after and every other day after, I practiced, and Bishop had always been there to hold me by the hand.

To be honest, I was scared. I was scared that I was letting a stranger into my life and the lives of my babies. I don't know but Bishop has proven himself to be trustworthy these past few days and I was beginning to feel comfortable around him.

After he was done, he came into the ward and bowed slightly. An act I have cautioned him to stop doing. It felt strange watching a grown man bowing to me but he did not listen.

“You are my boss. It is only normal that I bow.” He'd said and I knew I could not argue with him at all on that so I let him.

“Done?” I asked and he nodded.

“Yes, do you need some help?” He asked politely and I shook my head. Rising to my feet, I let him lead the way as I followed him from behind. I didn't know where we were going and I did not bother to ask.

The bright light from the sun hit me and I was reminded that I had not stepped out in weeks. Weeks since I lost my husband at the hands of a bitch.

I ground my jaw as we got to the car. My mouth went wide open as I noticed the car before me. “What is the name of the car?” I asked him, my eyes coloring at the neatness and newness of it.

“Bugatti Centodieci.” He answered with a smile and I inclined my head to the side. I knew this car. I had seen it on P*******t and even thought to ask Brian to get it for me for my birthday gift.

“This is…”

“Just the beginning, boss.” He opened the door and dipped his head to urge me inside.

“Are you sure this is the car?” I asked once again and he shook his head, then brought a remote. He clicked on it and it sounded, like telling me I now owned it.

“It is yours, boss.” I did not waste any time as I stepped in and sat comfortably. Maybe too comfortable for my dear life.

He rounded the car and got himself seated in the driver’s seat. “We are leaving now, boss.” He informed me as he passed an iPad to me.

I got lost in the movie I was watching. I had cautioned myself against checking for the news. My mental health didn't need it.

The car screeched to a halt and Bishop announced our arrival. I dragged my gaze away from the iPad and my eyes went wide at the mansion before me. With Bishop opening the door for me, I hopped out, my eyes still etched on the building.

“This is… mine?” I asked, trying to see that I was not sleeping or dreaming.

“Yes, it is yours, and with this too.” He said, handing the car key to me and joy overflowed within me.

I had been scared that I would be unable to take care of my kids. I was scared that they would have to suffer but no! They won't! They have a billionaire mom now and I will spend my money on them! I promise! Brian and Angela can go to hell!
