“Why are you taking me away from the children, Bastien?” Laura’s questions drew me out of my subconscious mind.

I stopped wheeling her and looked around my surroundings certain that even if Javier was following us he wouldn't be able to eavesdrop.

We were in the hospital hallway filled with patients, nurses, and doctors. Everywhere was noisy and it was the perfect setting for me to talk with Laura.

“I just wanted us to talk in a safe space,” I finally answered her question.

She looked around and burst into laughter as I sat down on the bench beside her wheelchair.

“A safe space? This is a very noisy environment,” she chuckled.

“That’s why it’s perfect,” I grinned, “It’s been so long, Laura.”

“So long indeed. And you're still cagey,” Laura noted.

I laughed, “I’m just being careful.”

“What happened between you and your son?” she asked.

I sighed, I knew eventually that question would come up but I wasn't ready to fully answer it.

“It’s occasionally bickering,” I answered
