IV

"How could you leave me and not look for me last night?" my voice rose as the call went through.

The laughter from Jonas came immediately. "You're with Mr. Dimitriou. I won't interfere if I want our project to go smoothly."

"What does that even mean?" I breathed.

"Maven Dimitriou is the club's owner and the biggest shareholder of the company we work for, Abigail. We can't do anything against his wishes if we want to live rich."

The shock robbed me of my anger. I didn't expect...Gosh, why did it get like this? What kind of coincidence is this?

"Are you serious?"

"Yes."

"And that's why you let him see me?"

"Because, why not?" Jonas replied. "He likes you and threatened to withdraw all his investments if I didn't let him near you."

"Damn, Jonas." I close my eyes, clutching my aching head.

"Did he hurt you? Was he rude to you?"

Maven Dimitrou is more than all of that. He's a piece of shit, an asshole, a demon, a monster, a criminal. The most despicable man in my life.

I take a breath.

Get it together.

I'm not telling him the truth, because I don't want anyone besides Hannah and Vittoria to know about my past with Maven. No one should ever know that.

"No, he didn't do any of that." I sighed. "I'm just... I'm just upset that you left me and made me end up with someone I don't know." My lie flowed smoothly.

"Is he nice?"

"Yeah, he's nice," I replied. "And it's so strange."

"It's not strange. All men will do unexpected things when we meet a woman who catches our eye. Our project will go smoothly if you maintain your connection with him."

I understood that. Coming from Jonas, who knew nothing, made me understand that all Jonas wanted was the survival of company and the success of all its employees. Nothing more than that.

Although here, I was the one who felt the badness of my past coming, but what could I do? I couldn't possibly scold Jonas for that. All the employees will lose their livelihood if Maven withdraws his investment because of our personal problems.

Maven Dimitriou...

I don't understand what he's been through to make him this crazy.

"I hope so." I said bitterly. "I'll hang up, then. I have to go to the airport." And that man's existence in this country made me speed up my flight schedule.

"Alright, Abi. Take care."

"Sure."

I put the last of my clothes into my bag and let out a rough sigh as I put my phone on my bed. I took the pills I bought on the way home from the hotel.

Undoubtedly, I didn't want to risk whatever he had caused me. Having a baby was the last thing I wanted in this world. Mainly if it belonged to a man with the last name Dimitriou. Because I really hate him, and I don't want to be bound to him by anything.

I pray fervently that I don't meet him again.

But will that be possible when he's a significant investor in the company I work for and holds the fate of everyone who works there?

"Please tell me that I have to come with you," Hannah said again with a worried look on her face.

"We," corrected Vittoria.

I was in the airport, getting ready to enter the departure gates, and of course, they were whining to take me. I chuckled. "You guys have to work. I'm fine on my own. Trust me."

The defeated expressions of the two made me laugh briefly. Hannah sighed. "I'll take two days off to attend your sister's party."

"No need." I shook my head. "It's okay, Hannah. I mean it."

She swallowed before nodding, her anxious expression still not fading. "Call us if you have any problems."

I nodded and moved to hug them both. "I love you guys."

"Take care. Let us know when you arrive," Vittoria said as she stroked my back.

I nodded and released the hug. Dragging my suitcase towards the inspection, I waved at them, who smiled at me.

It's hard, but I know I can face my family and everything surrounding me. For once, I want to stop running from the past and meet what's coming.

For once, I want to let them know that I'm perfectly fine and happy alone.
