Chapter 2

Jason immediately left, leaving Emily alone and confused.

What had happened to that man? Had Roberts woken up?

She quickly turned around but noticed nothing unusual. Her husband was still lying in bed, his breathing as calm and steady as before.

The only difference was that one of his hands was hanging outside the quilt. Emily stared at Roberts's limp hand for a while, which probably fell when she bumped into the door frame trying to avoid Jason.

"Roberts?" she called cautiously, but he didn't respond. Then she leaned in a bit and raised her voice, "Hey, Roberts!" But he still didn't respond.

Emily swallowed hard, slowly walked to the bed, and carefully took his hand, tucking it back under the quilt.

Roberts didn't move a muscle, which relieved her. He was still in a coma. Perhaps Jason had just hallucinated from being so drunk.

Emily sighed with relief. The room returned to its usual silence, but her heart was still pounding. For some unknown reason, she was afraid that Roberts would wake up. Then Emily sat on the edge of the bed and stared at him, but she was so tired that she soon fell asleep.

The next day, she woke up and realized she was lying on the edge of the bed. Quickly, she turned to look at Roberts. To her relief, he apparently hadn't moved an inch all night. Emily felt a lot of uncertainty, but she finally dismissed the possibility that Jason had seen Roberts move the night before.

Apparently, that drunkard was just hallucinating.

Then Emily went to the bathroom to wash up. As she brushed her teeth, she noticed a red mark on her neck that wasn't there before. It looked like someone had pinched her recently. She remembered the fight she had with Jason the night before and guessed that he had left that mark.

Emily was angry at the thought of that traitor. Then she set aside the toothbrush, went back to the bedroom, and put on a high-necked blouse to cover the mark. When she finished dressing, she went downstairs.

Just as she reached the last step, Jason suddenly appeared and took her to the study. "Did Roberts wake up last night?" he whispered in her ear, fearing someone would overhear them.

Emily's stomach turned at the sight of him. She took a few steps back and replied expressionlessly, "No, he's still unconscious."

"Thank goodness! I drank too much last night and imagined things. For a second, I thought Roberts had opened his eyes and looked at me. Thank God it was just an illusion," Jason breathed deeply, much relieved, and smiled again as he usually did.

That smile used to please Emily in the past, but at that moment, she hated it. She lowered her head so he wouldn't notice her resentment.

Since Jason didn't know the real reason for her hostility, he thought she was uncomfortable about what had happened the night before. So he apologized in a low voice, "I'm sorry about last night, Emy. I got drunk on wine. I didn't mean to be rough with you."

Emily forced a smile and simply said, "It's okay."

Then she made up an excuse to leave the study immediately.

When she got to the dining room, she saw Miller was already sitting at the table. He was very serious and rarely smiled. When she greeted him, the man only nodded, and his face was cold and indifferent.

Laura, Roberts's stepmother, on the other hand, was very excited. She was Jason's biological mother, so she probably knew his plan.

In fact, that was the only logical explanation for her excessive warmth and kindness toward the girl.

Emily felt uncomfortable during breakfast. Once they finished eating, Miller took her to the private hospital owned by the Wilson family.

Then Jason arrived.

As Emily was being wheeled into the ward, he looked at her with complicity. She immediately caught the hint and smiled at him to assure him that she hadn't forgotten the plan.

However, as soon as she turned away, her smile faded. Emily entered the ward with a cold look, and she began to feel more and more afraid. When she remembered that Jason had been with her stepsister and had killed her father, she gritted her teeth and fists in fury.

She was determined to take revenge and reclaim what was rightfully hers. The operation lasted about an hour.

Emily, very pale, was wheeled out of the ward. Then the doctor removed his mask and told Miller, "Everything went well, Mr. Wilson. Now we have to wait about a month to confirm if she's pregnant."

Hearing that, Jason's expression darkened. In contrast, Miller's usually cold face lit up with a smile. It didn't take a genius to notice that the man was pleased with the news.

He looked at Emily with satisfaction and then ordered the driver to take her and Jason back home. On the way, Jason was red with anger.

In fact, the man's forehead veins were so swollen from his fury that they looked like they were about to burst, but he didn't say a word.

Emily didn't want to speak to him. She spent the whole way looking out the window, lost in her thoughts. Once they got out of the car, Jason lost control, grabbed her arm, and dragged her to the garden to tell her everything he was thinking.

"What the hell did you do, Emily? I thought we had agreed that you would ruin the artificial insemination! Why didn't you do it?" Jason yelled.

Emily thought she didn't owe that traitor any explanation. He made her angry, so she pulled her arm away abruptly and said coldly, "Don't talk to me like that, Jason! Remember, I'm your sister-in-law!"

Jason smiled ironically, kicked a tree, and said, “What did you say? It must have been a joke!"

Emily's heart started pounding when she saw the man's eyes red with anger. She turned to walk away, but Jason stopped her and shouted, "Did I tell you to leave? Don't you dare leave me! I haven't finished talking to you!"

It seemed like sparks of fury were flying from his eyes. Emily was scared but also angry. She tried to free herself as she looked at him and yelled, "Let me go!"

"Bitch!" Jason insulted her, holding her with both hands, and then added, "That wasn't what we agreed on. Did you try to deceive me now that you're married to Roberts? Just so you know, you can't get rid of me. Besides, we don't know if you'll get pregnant, and even if you do, Roberts won't be able to protect you or that bastard."

"Shameless! How are you so sure about that? Roberts is still alive, isn't he?" Emily mocked and continued,

"Whatever happens, I'm still your sister-in-law. You'd better accept it!" That comment enraged Jason, and he raised his hand to slap her. However, before he could do it, a servant ran out of the house and shouted, "Madam! Mr. Roberts just woke up and said he wants to see you!”
