Dodging bullets

For two days, we didn't go to work. I was like an empty shell and with food in the house, I couldn't eat it.

"How do you even plan a funeral?" Jenna asked, coming to sit beside me.

She had a few brochures from a couple of funeral homes on the table before her.

"We could always cremate her as she wanted, and one day sprinkle her ash in Greece. I mean, it's only three of us, so to not have any additional costs, I think this is best." I shrugged.

"That's it then," Jenna said, pushing the papers off the table.

"I still don't see why they waited this long to let us know mom died. 8 days? It took them 8 days to contact us." Jenna said after a long pause.

"That means she died after I left the hospital," I said.

"Can't you use this against them, neglect or something?" Jenna asked.

"They will say we didn't pay, so it makes no sense."
