Chapter 2

《Kyle pov》

There was a dull pang in my head, telling me that someone had crossed my borders. Thinking it was a forsaken or a rogue, I asked my warriors to handle it. But something about it didn't feel right. Like I was missing something, or making a mistake. The feeling gnawed at me until I groaned and got up.

"Where are you going?" My girlfriend asked as I rose from our bed and started getting dressed. She wasn't my mate, but we had been dating for years and I planned on making her my Chosen Mate instead. My parents weren't all too happy about it since I hadn't ever technically looked for my Fated Mate, but there wasn't much they could do now.

"Going to check out an unauthorized border entry. Something isn't sitting right," I explain and head out of our bedroom, pulling my shirt down.

She climbed out the bed after me, putting her hands on my waist and pulling her body close to me. We had never mated and I hadn't marked her, nor her me, but her touch usually calmed me. Now it just irritated my wolf, Xavier, which meant I was irritated. "Not right now, Sam," I say and gently remove her hands from me. Sam tried pulling closer instead and Xavier took over for a second and ripped ourselves out of her grasp.

Xavier’s actions scared the hell out of me and Sam. He had never been rough with her, or anyone before. He actually was quite calm and ignored Samantha because she wasn't our true mate. Another reason we hadn't gone through the mating process yet.

Both human and wolf part has to be in agreement on a mate if it was a Chosen one. I was just waiting for him to come around.

Sam looked hurt by me not wanting to be in her presence. I understood. We'd been dating for years now and I truly loved her. She looked away and walked into the bathroom, closing the door. I would have to apologize for that later and explain the best way I can.

"What the hell man?" I demand from Xavier. He stays silent and just forces a shift on me, my clothes ripping. He tears out of the room, scaring the nearby maid and runs out of the packhouse. My beta, Dean, stared at me as Xavier left out. This was new and I was at a loss on how to stop him.

The closer we got to the breach, the more he let go until he let me take over completely. I shifted back and looked around for some shorts to throw on, thankful I passed the law to keep outfits of all sizes scattered around. Not everyone shifts at midnight on their 18th birthday. Some do it later and some wolves are in more control than their humans. Or if someone gets angry and goes for a run. It's to protect people from predators and I don't mean the forsaken or the rogues. However, the anxiety coursing through me from Xavier was so bad I barely had enough time to put on some clothes before he took off again.

"STOP!!” I yell as I see Alan, my head warrior about to pounce on a woman who looks like she could barely stand on her feet. He skids to a stop in front of her while he and the other warriors look over at me. My eyes meet with hers and the world stops. “Don't touch her.”

Surprise was written over everyone's faces as the warriors shifted back and stepped away from her. “Mate,” she whispered. Xavier was extremely happy she recognized us. That's when we noticed the wound on her leg. She was bleeding too much for it not to be one.

I walk over to her in a trance of the mate bond and gently rub my fingers over her cheeks, looking over her face and the rest of her to make sure she was alright. There were these electric jolts and sparks that shot through me where her skin touched mine and I never wanted to let go. I could see the absolute fear in her eyes.

All of a sudden, those same eyes roll to the back of her head and she goes limp in my arms. Panic overwhelms me and I pick her up bridal style, her head close to my heart. "Call the doctor and get them to the pack house, now!!" I shout to everyone, anyone. I had just found her and couldn't lose her!

The mate bond made me worry constantly and Xavier was no help. He came forward as much as he could to help me run back. I could shift and carry her, but I didn't want to run the risk of her falling. That and I wanted to feel her skin against me. She was mine and that's how it should stay.

It felt like hours had gone by before I finally saw the pack house in view. I had taken the back way so no one would gaze upon her until I was sure she'd be okay. My heart was racing as I took my mate inside and set her down on the nearest couch. Then the doctor ran in as we stepped back and Xavier growled as he was male, unmated and unmarked as far as we could tell.

"I came as quickly as I could, alpha, what's going on?" he asks, looking at the unconscious girl in front of me. A gasp of fear and shock escapes him and he backs away. "You have to kick her out!! I cannot treat her! She's the Cursed Rogue!! She matches the description perfectly! Alpha, she cannot-"

I snapped. "SILENCE!" Xavier roared. It was rare for our wolves to actually speak on their own like that without their human counterpart, but in this instance, I was right along with him. The doctor instantly closed his mouth and bowed his head in submission.

"You will heal and treat her," I said, reigning my wolf in so I didn't actually murder him for refusing not only an order, but to heal my mate. His Luna. He nodded and went to pick her up, but I snarled at him, making him jump back. Dean walked in and I think he knew what was going on.

He cleared his throat, bringing my attention to him. "If I may, Alpha Kyle," he said, gesturing to Mate. Until I knew her name, that's what I would have to call her. Before I could answer he glanced down at my hands. Only then I realized my claws were out and ready to kill. I could not touch her like this.

Xavier was displeased, but allowed it. Dean had not found his mate, but we trusted our beta not to betray us. He had never steered us wrong before. "Yes," was all I said.

"Thank you Alpha. Follow me Lucas," Dean says as he gently and gingerly picks Mate up, holding her head to his chest, making sure she didn't hurt anywhere from being moved around too much, which was kinda ironic considering there was a big bloodstain on her jeans, and I ran like a lunatic with her here.

Dean took her to my bedroom, with me hot on his heels and laid her on the bed. He looked me over and shook his head, pointing to the closet. What? I too looked myself over and realized what he meant. I was only wearing a pair of shorts. Not exactly bad, but I don't want my mate to wake up and see me like this. I grumbled, not wanting to be away from Mate any longer than I had to, but went into the closet to change anyways.

I came out dressed as Lucas came in with medical equipment. "Do you know where the wound is?" he asked, looking her over. I nodded and rolled her on her stomach, making her groan. Panic ran through my veins and I looked at her head. She didn't move or make another sound.

"Who is that?" I hear Samantha ask from behind me. She had been in the bathroom this entire time? I did not answer her and kept staring at Mate.

"I.... I need her pants off," Lucas said quietly. A loud growl formed in my throat and I could feel his fear. "N-not for anything like that Alpha! I don't know where the wound is exactly and if I cut the pants without knowing, it could hurt her even more."

Dean nodded and looked at me. It was my decision. "Fine," I said. "As long as she gets help as soon as possible and not a minute later." I didn't want to be the reason she died. Just the thought sent me on a rollercoaster of despair.

"Kyle... who is that?" Sam asked again. I looked at her and then at Dean. He understood and went over to her and took her out for me and I returned to worry about my mate.

I watched the doctor carefully as he reached for her pants and I couldn't let him. This was my job. No sooner did I grab the hem myself, he turned around to avoid looking at her exposed body for longer than needed. Smart.

And away went the jeans, but I didn't have time to marvel at her no doubt delicious body. She was hurt. I quickly grabbed a towel and covered her panties so no one else would see except me. "There.." I mumbled.

He turned around and looked at her legs, touching them. Xavier did his best to control himself. "She was bit by a forsaken," Lucas announces, pointing to a mark on her thigh. I look at it and it was indeed a forsaken bite.

Their bites are extremely venomous and can kill even adult wolves in a matter of minutes, even alphas. You can tell the difference between the bites in human form because the skin started to decay.

My heart drops. Forsaken wounds were impossible to cure, even if you were an alpha or alpha heir. Only the Moon Goddess herself could save you if you had been bitten or scratched deep enough. "She probably won't last any longer than a few hours. Who is she?"

"My mate," I whisper, staring at the bite mark on her thigh. My hand gently strokes her legs and her muscles twitch. Tears well up in my eyes and fall before I can stop them. Lucas nods and goes to say something before bowing respectively. "Leave me."

And he disappears. Guilt fills me and I find myself laying In bed with her as this would be the first and last time I would ever do so. I can't help but whisper apologies as I hold her in my arms, kissing her forehead. And inhaling her scent.

Funnily enough, it was much more calming than Samantha ever was. Honey and mint would be my new favorite smell, but I would never smell it again after today. I apologized for not looking for her and not finding her sooner than what I did, hating the fact that she would be lost to me.

Time slips by and the tears have stopped, but I did not dare move away. Even if it killed my soul, I would stay until her last breath. "I'm sorry," I whispered in her ears as she let out one more breath.
