Not any better

THE NEXT NIGHT

Emberlynn sat at the dining table, looking at the meal set before her and then at the door before glancing back at the table.

She had been waiting for Lucian for the last two hours to burst through the door, but he never did. The room was as empty as ever.

Without his presence in the room, it feels somewhat strange. The maids were present and minding their business. She had even asked them questions about his whereabouts, and she had gotten automated responses such as;

"The Alpha is absent."

"The Alpha shall be told of your arrival."

"The Alpha never mentioned dinner with the Luna."

Emberlynn had been tempted to respond to the last message with sarcasm, but she didn't think it would be very well appreciated.

Besides, she never knew there was any rule to having dinner with him, and she had hoped for him despite everything that had been said.

After eating, she stood and started walking to the door.

The door opened to reveal Lily, who immediately bowed to her.
