SIXTY FIVE

The first thing Catherine saw when she opened the door for the bell ringer was a grim face and red eyes from crying too much. The smile on her face soon disappeared and was replaced by a worried look because she found Hazel coming home in a condition that wasn't what she expected. She thought Hazel would be happier after coming home from D.C, considering she'd gotten what she'd wanted all along, a chance to meet Kiev and ask about Calvin. But what she saw at this time actually looked worrying. Hazel's condition had become much worse than the last time she had seen her before she left for the airport full of joy.

"The girls?" she asked wearily as she plopped down on the couch. She had tried not to cry the whole way from the airport to her apartment. And now she felt really tired like her energy had been sucked out of her body.

"Still in school. Emily's home in an hour. Zinny has ballet classes after her school."

“Oh… I miss them,” Hazel groaned in frustration.
