Chapter 4 - Broken

Dianne woke up with a massive headache due to drinking all night. Upon opening her eyes, she was horrified to see herself in a completely strange house. "Please, tell me it wasn't a one-night stand," she whispered under her breath. She took a deep breath and looked under the sheets and saw she was wearing different clothes. Her face suddenly became pale and she stood up from the bed, dizzy as fuck.

She looked around the room and noticed it was an extravagant room, probably the master's bedroom. She took her phone and wallet on the side table. She gulped and breathed heavily before walking to the dresser where a picture frame is turned to the fall. She shakily grabbed it before turning it around before the shock made her fall to the ground.

"Holy-" She covered her mouth in horror as she stared at the picture of her ex-boyfriend and his late wife, Chloe, in a happy portrait in Paris. She stood up from the ground as her heartbeat was rapid.

She got out of the room and came face to face with the empty hallway, almost like a nightmare. Please… wake me up from this, she thought to herself. She gathered her strength despite walking with a hazy vision and throbbing head. She reached the living room downstairs before hearing the sound of the utensils in the kitchen hitting one another, and the smell of the food Silvester was cooking.

She watched her footsteps as she sneaked away from him, praying not to get caught. Despite her hangover, she managed to reach the front door and dash out of there. Her breathing was still unstable and her heart started racing again when she saw Silvester behind the window, cooking. She ran away before hiding behind a bush, enough time for her to be out of sight when he turned to look outside.

After a couple of minutes of walking and she was already tired and the sky was turning darker as the sun hid behind a cloud. She checked the pockets of the shorts she was wearing and found her phone but her wallet was missing and her eyes widened. "Fuck!" she cursed loudly before realizing she must've dropped it somewhere.

She shakily opened her phone before calling her friend and right-hand man, Harrison. He might only be her assistant but he definitely acts as a father figure despite him only being three years older than her.

"And where have you been?" She gulped, she hasn't even said anything, yet he is already asking questions.

"Pick me up near the town park, I need a ride," she uttered before ending the call immediately. She doesn't want to receive an earful from him. Dianne looked up into the sky and noticed a few drops of tears from the clouds. She walked around the park before sitting down on a bench.

Once more, she looked at the sky and noticed the lighting forming in the clouds. She deeply sighed before resting her head on the bench. She felt the pouring rain hit her skin that seemed to ease her worries yet it was replaced by worry.

"What!" she screamed as someone wrapped a bag around her head, making her blind from what was going on around her. In a matter of seconds, they wrapped her hand with a rope but this didn't stop her from kicking the man in front of her and turning around to punch the man who wrapped the bag around her head. They both groaned and she bolted as fast as she could from them but her legs were pulled and she fell to the ground. "Fuck!" she screamed as her boobs slightly hit the floor despite helping herself with her tied hands.

"Give up, Dianne, we're taking you to the master." Master?! What master? she thought to herself before freeing her hands with brute force and ripping the rope apart before she took off the bag on her head. "Leave me the fuck alone!" she screamed in frustration as the rain poured down and the thunder blocked out her screams as they dragged her by her feet. She turned around to face them as she pulled her legs closer to her and kicked them with full force, making them fall to the ground.

She stood up and blew out-breath before fixing her wet clothes because of the rain. One of the men pointed a gun at her and she lowered her head before kicking the gun away. "Dianne!" She looked behind the men as she heard Harrison scream.

"Well then, I'll see y'all next time," she sarcastically said before running as fast as she could as they followed behind her. "Catch her!"

Harrison opened the window on the back seat as she ran to him. He got ready to dash, waiting for her. "Go!" she screamed loudly before jumping through the window of the car door, landing on the soft cushions at the back. He immediately drove away as she composed herself. "Are you okay? What happened? Is something wrong? What did they do to you-" She hushed him before telling him that she was fine.

"I told you not to go alone! I was worried sick all day! You're not a normal person, Dianne. You can't roam around like one! You'd end up dead for fuck's sake."

"I'm taking you to the headquarters and get yourself ready," he said and she nodded like a polite kid.

Once they arrived at the headquarters, she took a bath and put on her black fitted dress and red heels before looking at herself in the mirror. "Nothing happened, right?" she asked herself if anything happened between her and Silvester.

"What?" She turned around and saw Harrison and she shook it off. Whatever happened will stay only to her knowledge.

"You're still not off the hook after sneaking and drinking out, Dianne," he reminded and she rolled her eyes. "Stop acting like my dad," she said before scoffing. He keeps being strict with her despite her capability to take down ten men at once.

Two guards opened a massive door for her as she walked into the silent meeting room and the sounds of her heels are the only thing that can be heard. Powerful men are standing up next to the marble table as they bow before her. Surrounded by powerful men yet she's the most powerful among them all. Her cheerful aura vanished as she turned cold and intimidating.

"Gentlemen, have a seat." She walked towards the front and looked around before rolling her eyes and slamming her left hand on the table. "Where is Kronos?" A tablet was handed to her and there lies the man she is looking for. She put on her eyeglasses and deadpan looked at him.

"Looking dashing, love," he teasingly said and she clenched her jaw.

"Looks like your lover, Rae, was it? Looks like he wasn't as nice as you imagined," he said and she raised an eyebrow, feeling annoyed with the handsome man in front of her.

"Are you mocking me?" she asked and the man laughed. Everyone respects her, they do as she commands, yet this man doesn't listen to her one bit.

"Well, if you married me, this wouldn't have happened. I'd say this is a poor choice of yours," he said and she clenched her jaw.

"You didn't show up to the meeting and now you mock me?" She slammed the table with her left hand. "Do you perhaps want to be married to death? I can make the arrangement." She cunningly smiled and he smirked. They were once allies bound to marry one another but she refused and didn't show up, making him look like a fool.

"Apologies, Dianne," he said but it sounds as if it was not sincere.

"I have gathered you today because of a traitor. You may know him as a member of the syndicate, or you may know him as my fiancé, but regardless, an action must be taken," she said and one tried to hold his laughter and she shot a glare.

"You might be smart but definitely dumb in love," an old leader uttered and her lips parted. She crossed her arm and leaned back before grabbing a pistol and pointing it at the man. "Once I find out that one of the leaders of the syndicate is a traitor…" She pulled the trigger and everyone flinched, waiting for the bullet to hit the old man, but the gun was empty. "I will pull another trigger but it will be filled with bullets," she said with a sweet and devilish smile.

Harrison couldn't help but have a slight smirk upon seeing her ruling the syndicate.

She stood up and walked out of the once again silent room and only her red heels are making noises. She sighed heavily as the guards close the door after she left the room. She removed her glasses before heading to an elevator as Harrison follows behind her.

"Where is he?" she asked as she checked the time on her phone.

"Cell 13," he uttered and she turned to look at him with an angry look.

"You dare to mock me?" she angrily asked and he shook his head profusely and raised both his hand. "That's our anniversary number, you dickhead," she said before the elevator opened and she furiously stomped her way to cell 13.

As she enters the cell door, she can see him clothed properly and the cell has a bed. She sighed and sat down on a chair to talk to him. Her love for him is still there but it's as if it was lost deep within and vanished upon the betrayal. She cleared her throat before looking at him with a cold stare.

"Speak what you want to say, this will be the last time I will visit," she said and he slowly looked up at her.

"Dianne, I didn't expect you to spare me," he said and she rolled her eyes.

"You deceived a syndicate leader, I should've killed you but I still have some decency," she uttered before crossing her legs and he stood up and tried to get closer but the chains on him limited his movements.

"I didn't intend for it to go too far, I apologize for ruining your feelings," he said and she can't tell if it is sincere or not.

"I admit to everything said against me. But you must know something, they're coming after you." She stood up and was about to leave. She held the cell door and pushed it open but stopped when he uttered, "That man, Silvester, is a valuable man to the enemy." She turned to look at him with a confused look.

"Avoid him if you want to avoid a war… or if you want to keep him safe." Rae's eyes say it all, he's being honest right now and betraying the other side.

She sighed heavily before opening the door. Before leaving, she had one last question. "Did you ever love me?" she asked with a heavy heart, afraid of his answer.

"I did, that's why I wanted to put an end to this… fucked relationship," he said and a tear fell down Dianne's eye before she closed the door behind her. She covered her mouth as her tears fell continuously.

"Dianne…?" Harrison held her shoulder and she cried further. It feels as if the pain was new despite feeling this countless times. She should've never trusted him of keeping her heart.

"Tell me your orders, I will do as you wish," Harrison said and she wiped her tears before fixing her composure. When she thought emotions already vanished within her, pain stroked her soul.

"Spare him but still extract information from him the best you can," she ordered and he nodded.

She fixed her hair and wiped what was left of her tears. She walked away from the cell rooms as her heels echoed through the halls. Once more, her heart broke for a man and she's hoping that this will be the last time her heart will be broken, or else she will turn cold as ice, a merciless leader.

"Get ready to assassinate another traitor in an auction," she reminded before leaving.
