Chapter 1

Anastasia’s POV

I shot out of my bed, sweat dripping out of my forehead, abnormally uneven fast breaths, and eyes that wonders in the darkness.

‘It is that dream again’

Every single birthday since I was ten years old, I would always see myself having this dream of me running, relentlessly and pathetically running away from something or perhaps someone. I do not know what or whom am I running away from as darkness has been the only thing that I can see in it but I looked extremely scared and… hurt?

It had been consistent. Every detail of the dream had been the same every year, but now it is different – the endpoint isn’t the same. It usually ends with me attempting to look back and getting welcomed by darkness, but now? Instead of darkness, I am welcomed with eyes – glowing green eyes intently staring at me. What it portrayed or what it wishes to tell me? I do not have a single idea.

When I brought up the dream that I had, I remembered how my grandmother blurted that I will someday be the reason for the unity within this world and that I shall embody the wish of the goddess – something that I find ridiculous. The goddess in context is the main character's grandmother’s favorite legend – the legend of the moon. She has always had this weird interest in legends and folklore but this particular story has been a topic she persistently told me to the point that even I remembered every single detail of it.

---

The legend started with Luna, a beautiful and benevolent goddess protecting the peace of two co-existing races, the werewolves and humans. Luna loves both races and showers them with blessings; abundant natural resources, a peaceful and magnificent environment, and the ever-so-needed light in the night. The peace continued for many centuries after, but as she grow more adept at keeping the prosperity and tranquility of her beloved land, a conflict arose.

Werewolves were a tad bit different compared to humans. They have this ability to transform into a wolf allowing them to have strength and physique above the average man. They have the same features as humans before their transformation aside from their eyes, the eyes that glow at the slight touch of moonlight. In a way, werewolves can surely be considered better compared to humans but they did not allow that to get to their heads. They view humans as comrades and even family for some. They are kind, caring, and take pride in their relationships. They take high regard for trust which makes them vulnerable to the feeling of betrayal, something that humans took advantage of.

The humans rebelled with the rotten root of inferiority. They can’t help but envy the ability that makes the werewolves better compared to them leading to the complete eradication of their long friendship. Together with their torches and weapons, they wreaked havoc in the dwellings of the wolves. With no remorse, humans trashed the facilities and kills werewolves they find on sight, no regard to age or gender. Like animals devoid of reasoning, they continued to slaughter the wolves who were caught off guard by their betrayal.

The goddess who was belatedly informed of the atrocity was only able to save half of the wolves. Her eyes roamed around the bloodshed left of the battle. Blood and corpses of her beloved people can be seen in her treasured land. The used-to-be friendly and peaceful ambiance was burned as the fire of betrayal ignited. A single tear rolled down her cheeks as she scanned the devastating status of her people.

“What has become of you?!” Luna’s voice roared as she looked at the source of chaos, the humans.

In her rage, she uttered things that although devastated her, are also relevant to prevent the situation from happening again.

“You foolish creatures who have no regard for trust and are full of envy will suffer at the hands of your own people,

You who succumb to your desire to be superior will fall miserably,

You will live in grief and sorrow caused by your own actions,

You will hide in the night of darkness in fear of your predators,

And you will rue the ailment of your mistakes, for decades, centuries even, until I deemed you worthy of trust again.”

The goddess then looked at the state of the werewolves.

“You poor child of the wilderness who puts trust and relationship above else,

I will grant you my light which will guide your way at night.

With my power in sight, you are the strongest and shall continue to be the case unless you incur my wrath,” sympathetically yet threateningly said the Goddess.

With a wave of her hand, a mountain range of great height arose. It serves as a wall dividing the new territory of two races. The goddess taught that if co-existing failed due to betrayal, complete isolation of the races would at least preserve the peace of her land.

From then on, humans and werewolves never associate themselves with each other, or at least not that we know of.

She firmly believes that the idea of werewolves existing together with humans is true and that they are only nowhere to be seen because of human atrocities. Well, for me, I don’t believe it. The only realistic part of that legend is the portrayal of how vile and wicked humans are. I have not seen one werewolf nor have I found any unedited pictures of it online but I have already experienced how humans can be so inhumane, so, for sure I would believe something that I already saw evidence of.

Right... that is something I deemed nothing but a mere legend my grandmother used to love. Nothing but a superficial imagination of my grandmother topped with the weird dreams I am having from it being replayed nonstop. Nothing but fantasy... it should've been a fantasy.

"You will stay here now, love. With me... always" my alpha obsessively said as he affectionately kiss my lips, ignoring the tears streaming down my face

Never knew I would see myself in this situation, locked up, chained by the very people of the legend I deemed fictional.
