Tallulah's POV

“What?!” She asked, rubbing her eyes with that thin smile still on her face.

“This has nothing to do with your step brother. He didn't do anything. I told you, I only got emotional.”

She sounded quite believable but there was the possibility that she was covering for him.

“I know mom. Just tell me what he said. I need to know.”

“Okay.” She muttered.

Her hands left mine as she sauntered towards the trail containing the eggs I had fried. I responded to her movements, taking out the plates so she could serve them.

She sighed.

“At first, he wanted to apologize for what happened last night, but I told him not to. It wasn't his fault.”

I scoffed inwardly, hating the fact that she took it easy on him even after the pain he had caused her. But unknown to me, the worst was yet to come.

“Instead, I apologized to him.”

My fingers clenched tightly at either side of the pile of plates I was holding, wanting to smash it against the floor.
