Chapter Two: Secret Behind The Calling

"Good evening ladies and gentle men, gods and goddess." The oracle of life suddenly faded into existence at the alter, slowly shaping in self into a white feminine figure. "We are all gathered here today to celebrate a remarkable upcoming, the upcoming of a new being into the immortal realm. Many of you know that by now, that this being belongs to one of our deities, Aubrey." The oracle smoothly motions her hand, as though moving gracefully in water as she points towards Aubrey who stood up and placed his wine glass down to the table.

"Aubrey, not long ago had he asked for a soulmate to spend the rest of his time in the immortal realm." The oracle continued. "A woman who would sit beside him on his throne and reign together with him his kingdom. To have children of their own if need be, to share his love with, some to protect under his wing, someone to return the favour as well." The oracle sighed out admirably, as she always did when dictating a speech during the ceremony of uniting soulmates, since it was very rare for the gods and goddesses to ask for their soulmates as many had experienced and seen their soulmate's death.

"To have a soulmate, what a wonderful thing it is. As you were both destined to be together, a force that exceeds all forces of darkness and light. However, the trouble comes to keep each other from harms way as soulmates in the immortal realm are always at the tip of the mind for dark gods and demons. As I had warned every other, I shall warn you as well, Aubrey." The oracle turned to Aubrey as he bright glowing emerald green eyes glanced down at him. Despite taking the form of a human, she was still just a bright orb, everything except her green eyes were indistinguishable as she was completely made up of light. "Aubrey, today is the day you make a choice, whether or not to continue with the ceremony or not. Consequences and wonderful... Much wonderful things come from having your soulmate. All the greatest things in life, as well as the darkest come with it. Like power, a soulmate is a great responsibility. You know not this stranger, neither you does she. Take it as a choice in the battle with death, will you commence with the ceremony?" The oracle asked as Aubrey stared directly into her bright eyes, despite feeling hurt by the brightness, he just couldn't resist the complete calmness he could feel from her eyes.

"As I said before and I will say it again." Aubrey cleared his throat as he clenched his fists, hardly having enough patience to contain his excitement into revealing who his soulmate was going to me. "I fully accept-"

"Before you continue, Aubrey, we gods and goddess need to explain the dangers of finding your soulmate." Zeus interrupted Aubrey who glanced at him with brows knitted together.

"We all understand you want someone to love you, just as much as I love the dear thought of it." Aphrodite smiled charmingly as she walked up to Aubrey who stood at the foot of the stairs leading to the alter. "I love seeing a man and woman come together and share their vows to become one, however, soulmates in the immortal realm can be dangerous to have. You will love each other deadly, yes, however, you should both know one of you will leave one day despite living forever."

"What Aphrodite is trying to mean, Aubrey-" Diana stepped forth as she stood beside Aphrodite who laced her fingers together and bit onto her lip nervously. "-is that your soulmate might get killed."

"I will protect her. With my life." Aubrey frowned in a bit of annoyance, knowing too well he would simply keep her in the castle and his realm. She wouldn't travel into the void between the realms to avoid any ambush whatsoever. He hardly received guests so he didn't have to worry much about the thought of it being dangerous for his soulmate.

"I'm afraid my deity doesn't understand quite fully what he's going up against." Hades suddenly spoke up as he stood up from the chair, a bit far from the crowd and holding a wine glass in his arms, making his way to his deity Aubrey who seemed surprised. "I may have congratulated you earlier, but believe me there was pity in there too." He explained, staring down with his someone ashen eyes to Aubrey's bright grey eyes. "Just like a god's weakness lies in their deities, an immortal's weakness --be it god or deity or demon whatsoever-- lies in their significant other, their twin flame or twin soul so they call it."

"I don't mind at all." Aubrey shrugged his shoulders, resistant as ever, still not wanting to go back on the offer.

The gods exchanged looks, nodding to themselves as they were sure hr didn't understand their warning completely. While the deities remained standing at a distance, also unsure of why their superiors were making such a big scene about it. After all, in the mortal realm it wasn't a problem finding either husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends or wife's. Not many would try to explain a relationship as a 'battle with death'.

"Aubrey, you still don't get it do you?" Zeus asked as he chuckled out, pinching the bridge of his nose. "He's exactly like Hades, very blind to the problem in his way of things." He chuckled as Hades sighed out as he lazily glanced towards Zeus who couldn't stop chuckling to himself. "Aubrey what we are trying to say is your soulmate is likely to get killed faster than you could realise it. Soulmates, whether you like it or not are very vibrantly open and can draw in different energies. Gods and goddesses learned to sense bad energies from good as you are learning right now. But your soulmate is a child and she will become a magnet and a GPS to anything from the darkside. She's an open safe that every demon and dark god wants to steal from. Before you know it, Shell get killed, even whilst laying in the comfort of her bed. She'll become a door way, a bridge between your realm and the dark one because she doesn't know how to close her 'door' to them."

"In other words you can both die if you're not careful here, Aubrey. She's going to be a magnet until she learns to protect her energy." Aphrodite said, getting the deities to gasp in terror at the thought of it, sending chills down their spine. "I too had a soulmate brought to me once, but he merely lasted a century before he was killed by a demon he did not know he was summoning." She began and sighed out as she ran her fingers through her hair.

"He was completely clueless of the fact he was signalling them and granting them the invitation to the realm. Then, one night, I was in the mortal realm and left him behind with the servants. He went to take a bath that evening and closed the door. When I came back the maids had rushed to me claiming the master had locked himself up in the bathroom and wasn't getting out or saying anything. They didn't open the door because they can not without permission and claimed he didn't have his lunch nor dinner. I thought he was simply being childish as he was sometimes, but when I opened the bathroom, he was bathed in his own blood, half of his chest missing and his eyes plucked out. The demon thought it would be funny to sow the edges of his lips curved into a smile without any eyes in him. A note was left behind from the demon, thanking me for the easy meal."

Countless horrified gasps escaped the lips of the other deities as they all stared wide eyed in fear, others with their tears watering from the mere image of the scene in their mind.

It could be them.... Being a deity after all was a risk.
