Chapter Forty-nine

The hospital discharge was a long-awaited moment for Damien. After weeks of recovering from the attack, he was finally going home with Brenda, his devoted wife. Damien sat in a wheelchair, his body weakened by the injuries sustained during the assault. Brenda stood behind the wheelchair, ready to push him into their house. As they entered the familiar surroundings of their home, Damien’s irritation began to build. The doctor had warned him about the importance of minimizing movement to avoid reopening his stitches, but he couldn’t shake off the feeling of weakness that came with being in a wheelchair. The frustration bubbled up inside him, and he couldn’t hold it in any longer.

“Stop,” Damien commanded abruptly, his voice laced with irritation.
