Chapter 8: Lily's POV

My eyes widened and I slowly lifted my gaze to lock my eyes with his and he looked equally astonished.

“Mates?” I wondered aloud, hoping and praying I heard that wrongly. How could we be mates? This didn't happen in the novel. Anna and Xander were supposed to find out they were mates a few chapters after this.

'I just overheard that you lied to me about being mates.’ He said in the strange mind link, a frown etched on his facial features.

‘That was true, but how…. Maya, what’s going on?’ I asked. However, Maya had become so lost in the link and had approached Max, already so close to him.

They stopped in front of each other and howled, as if communicating in wolf’s way; their communication continued in a language we didn’t understand.

They seemed to be extremely excited about what they were chatting to each other about because they were laughing and howling like loud noises in my head.

‘How is this happening? What do we do?’ I asked Xander instead, since Maya was clearly too distracte
