The room was silent for a while. Chloe's gaze traveled to Robert's face, searching for answers.

“What's the problem?” She pressed on when Robert remained silent for a while.

He stood up and walked to the window. One of his hands held the window for support, while the other ran through his hair.

“You had surgery for your stomach cancer,” he blurted out.

“Cancer?” Chloe echoed, her eyes widening in shock as she clutched a throw pillow to her chest. “I have stomach cancer?”

“It's all gone now.”

Robert's lips thinned, and he turned to look at her. “I didn't want to tell you about this now, but when you went abroad to school, you used to take all types of drugs.”

“Huh?” Chloe seemed too stunned to speak.

Robert's chest heaved as he inhaled deeply and then exhaled. “Even your coma was drug-induced.”

Since Chloe is now living as Cara, it's only fair to give her Cara’s history as well.

“I tried to monitor you and stop you, but I couldn't be around you all the time. So whe
