The meadow looked even more beautiful as the darkness of the night fell around us. The slight glow that the moon had cast on the ground beneath us gave the flowers an almost iridescent glow. It was nice to just sit still for a moment, to just be us. No worries about rebels or the ascension. No Chase to worry about. It was just me and Liam.
“Why can’t it just stay this way?”
His arms wrapped ever so gently around me, tightening just enough to let me know that he had been wondering the same exact thing.
“I wish I knew.”
I turned so that I was facing him and allowed my body to rest against his, laying my head against his chest. There was nothing else to say. Both of us were hurting. The best we could do was stick it out and see where this new road took us and pray that we made it through it, relationship intact. But in that moment, I was just his. His and his alone.
“Liam?”
“Yea?”

I woke up in my bed, sandwiched between two men softly snoring in my ears, with their arms on either side of me. Careful not to wake either of them, I gently moved their arms one at a time so I could scoot myself down the mattress, to get to the bathroom. I needed to shower so I could relieve Jax from baby duty. Once I gathered my clothes from the closet, I went to claim the shower. I couldn’t believe the turn of events last night. I never thought I would enjoy the sight of two men making out before, but oddly enough, it kinda turned me on.Neither of them had a preference for the same sex, their preference was me, but this level of magic that we are dealing with has a plan for us, We just don’t know what that plan is yet. At least I hope there is a reason for this particular turn of events because I’m still not sure that I can handle having two men to tend to. It will undoubtedly be fun, but a lot of work at the same time.A lot of work? Work of th
Treasa was kicking her little feet and making cute baby noises as she stared up at her Daddy and I from the blanket we had laid out on the ground to sit on. Liam had the idea for us to have a nice, peaceful family picnic in the luscious green field just beyond our yard line. The water in the distance added to the beauty with its white on deep blue waves, slapping at the rocks that lined the shore.“I’ll never get over how beautiful it is here.”Liam rested his head on mine as we sat there in the sun, watching Treasa examine her own hands. “It is beautiful. The scenery was what I missed the most while I was in the states looking for you.”A stabbing pain in my temples blurred my vision. I Instinctively raised my hands to my head to massage my temples. Liam was trying to reach for me. The pain vanished as the mental doors slammed open and Chase’s panic rang through.“Get out of there now! Goddammit! Saraid! Liam
I was pacing. I always pace when I’m angry. That was a close call and if that arrow had flown even one inch to either side of me it would’ve struck my daughter. The thought of anything happening to her, quite frankly pissed me off. The realization of just how close it had come to happening drove me beyond anger and into a boiling rage. I needed to put an end to the nonsense before they make another attempt, and they would make another attempt. I’m counting on it.It was near impossible to contain the roaring wave of magic trying to break the surface of my skin, to go on a hunt for vengeance. It wasn’t over. The man that Liam later identified as George Landry, was working for the Curtis brothers and I wasn’t going to rest until they paid for what they had done. A loud hiss escaped me as my lips drew back over my fangs. My fear had me all over the place and the anger had my instincts in overdrive. The recipient of my hiss was Grady. He entered the
“What exactly possessed you into thinking that it was a good idea to host a pre-ascension dinner party?”My voice was hysterical. It has been two days since we had almost died, and I hadn’t heard from Jax since he left. I had asked Guin if she had heard from him and all she could tell me was that he had met some man that had some kind of information that could help him. She was just as worried as me.“Think about it, it’s the perfect opportunity to set a trap,” Chase said defiantly.“He’s right, Princess. Tomorrow is the ascension so tonight is their last chance to get to us before you are crowned.”I hated when they were an agreement against me. I couldn’t accept this plan because it’s taking place in our home, where my daughter will be.“What about Treasa? She’s just a baby.”“We have a plan to keep Treasa safe.”I rounded on them both, a
The room was filled with loud chatter as we all anxiously waited for the meal to be served. My people were laughing, smiling, and just having an all-around good time, conversing amongst each other. As I looked out over the crowd, I realized that my followers were very diversified. Our home was now full of vampires, lycanthropes, fae, merrows, Coomera’s, witches, and so much more. We even had a few leprechauns. One person in particular, a woman, caught my attention. By her beauty alone I knew that she was a merrow and for whatever reason, I had to make it a point to meet her.I caught the sight of a Guardian at the entrance. The bundle he had in his arms immediately stole my attention away from the woman I had been concentrating on. I made a move to stand and the whole room quieted. All eyes were now on me.Well, hell.I hate it when they do that.Determined to ignore the new attention I began to walk the length of the room toward the man
“How did you know you would be able to pull that off?” Jax was referring to my ability to transfer part of my leadership to Guin.“I didn’t know, honestly. I figured it was worth a shot, so I just did the same as I do when I share magic with anyone else.”I was hoping it would work because while I had no doubt that the members would respect her as co-leader, I wasn’t sure they would accept her. They needed to see her don the marks, so they could in no way contest it.“Who’s this person you want me to meet?” I asked Jax as he and I entered the conference room. Liam went to bathe Treasa and put her to bed and Chase was mingling with the crowd.“He will be here in a few minutes.”I closed the door to the room and when I turned around Jax was there, looking at me with a need that made my insides clench. He lifted me in the air and slammed my back against the wall and claimed my mouth wit
I didn’t want to leave the bed. I wanted to stay where we were and spend the whole night proving to Liam just how important he was to me, but we had other matters to attend to. Besides, he’s smiling and acting like himself again.“Chase is fetching Madeline for us. He’s going to take her to the sitting room.”We are both worried about the young woman under our care. She looks sickly and her visible skin is made up of mostly bruises and scars.“I feel for her. She has been beaten badly. I can almost guarantee that those bruises on her arms extend to the rest of her body.”His mouth was set in a straight line. Liam was very passionate about men who beat on women. It took him a long time to feel comfortable enough to train with me without holding back.“It’s just one more thing to make him pay for when we catch him,” he stated as we entered the sitting room.Madeline sat perched on the
We met Liam in the dining room where he was helping Rebecca clean up the mess from the gathering. He was no stranger to housework and I was proud to have a man in my life who was not afraid to submerge his hands in dishwater if need be. It was the little things, what can I say? Maddie appears to be more at ease around him now.“You look like you are feeling better Madeline. My lovely wife tends to have that effect on people.”She returned his smile with one of her own and replied with, “Her kindness is unmatched.”Great now I just feel awkward while they talk about me as if I’m not standing right here.“Did Rebecca get you something to eat?”Satisfied when she nodded, I looked to Liam. “You wanna join us, I’m giving her a tour and even I don’t know where everything is?”“Sure, I’d be happy to,” turning to Rebecca, “You ok with the rest of this?
