"Hey," Alita said when she walked into Benson's room and found him sitting down bed, hugging his thighs and lost in his thoughts. He didn't even hear her come in. "How're you holding up," she asked, her face contorted and her voice soft and tender like she was staring at a broken toy and asking out to nothing why it was broken whether it could be fixed. She hated seeing him like that –gloomy and dejected.

"I didn't hear you come in," Benson said in a deep husky, and tired voice. He had probably been awake throughout the night. "I told you this was out of bounds," he chuckled.

She gave a mirthless laugh and then said, "You should know by now that I mostly do what I am asked not to. You just make it irresistible for me when you say don't do this or that," she smiled weakly, studying him. 'I couldn't stop worrying about you. I hate to be left alone when I am something worries me enough to keep me awake at night. I always over-stretch my mind over the matter and end up thinking too
