Kiara's pov:The next day, breakfast wasn't anything out of the ordinary as I was yet to receive the best news ever. I sat opposite Eric, observing patiently as the head cook served the dishes diligently. She wouldn't dare to make a tiny mistake as not only her job was at stake but her life included. Eric treats servants like trash, like a bunch of useless garbage destined to be discarded anytime. The round table clothed in brown linen was filled with different varieties of meal courses.I grabbed a fork, carefully cleaning it with a white napkin beside it. Slicing the warm omelet into half, I chewed with eyes closed allowing its tenderness to bless my buccal cavity.A cold silence engulfed the dining area, with only I and Eric present, each doing justice to the meals served. I chewed silently, avoiding eye contact with the stern man at the other side of the table. Meals with Eric were always boring. No unnecessary convos and strict table manners. My heart skipped as Eric suddenly cl
Lucas's pov:"Don't give me that look," I scoffed, turning towards the standing mirror to fix my tie."You're really serious about attending the interview? It's not even like we're interviewing potential managers or something, it's an interview for ordinary accountants." Ray's disappointed tone sliced through the unsettled air. Leaving me totally uncomfortable and wondering what actually was wrong with a boss interviewing his employees."What's wrong with that?" I argued, flashing him an angry look. It is true that I could order the manager to take charge of the interviewees but I just wanted to attend to it myself. "Nothing….I mean, you shouldn't stress yourself with a petty interview. I think you still need to rest, you don't look too well since Mia's-" He spoke reasonably, almost stuttering at the same time while trying to put on a convincing smile. I cut him off totally with one glance. A glance that screamed- Shut up!Sometimes, I think his old age is somehow toiling with a li
Lucas's pov:The only space separating the interviewees and I was just the rectangular table in between. I just sat, my eyes constantly peeking at the door from time to time amidst each interview. I had thought the interview was a perfect way to escape from loneliness and self pity but I was totally wrong. All day, I've just been occupied with boring people, repeating the exact same lines of how being an accountant was their dream job.Blasphemy. They all probably wanted the job due to its huge pay.I got pissed, took off my tie and placed it on the desk. I can't have this lairs work for me. The well ventilated space seemed to grow smaller with each passing hour, I just wanted to get out of here.I watched the scroll list of the interviewees after dismissing the bald man. I still had more than 6 people to go. Shit.I signaled Ms. Moorim to contact the next candidate. Once she left, I poured myself a cup of hot coffee. Before I could gulp down the creamy brown content and relax my ner
Kiara's pov:"Oh my goodness, I'm so….so so..rry…It's an accident…" I quickly ran over to the other side of the desk, using my bare hands to clean the smelly mess I made.It only got worse. The shirt was already ruined."I'm really sorry…I was just shocked and…" I tried to explain, my voice cracking."It's fine, just leave the shirt." Lucas replied instead, his sinful gaze piercing through my glasses.I gulped repeatedly, nervously swallowing my dry throat, as I unconsciously drooled at him.Why does he have to be this fucking handsome? He had deep blue eyes like the peaceful sea, yet those eyes sent dirty signals. Constantly reminding me of someone I don't wish to remember. We stayed that way, a couple of minutes as I was totally lost in his presence, an uncontrollable heat building up between us. My hands held tightly to his jacket, and my eyes averted to his innocent pink lips, oblivious of what was going on inside of me. "Get your hands off me," He thundered, his raspy voice sli
Kiara's pov:I was left alone inside the car with the driver who looked to be in his mid forties. Clasping my legs together, with my hand on my chin, I reasoned my decision. Have I made the right choice?Eric had warned strictly that I could only contact him through a telephone line while at the office as he couldn't let me use a smartphone yet. Something might go wrong and they would be able to trail us down within minutes. The car door pulled open, disrupting me from my engraving thoughts. With my head now hinging on the glass panel, I watched Lucas get in, wearing a new outfit altogether. He looked nice but I shouldn't be thinking that. Right now, he was my potential foe who didn't think twice before threatening to end my damn life. "I'm not ready to go yet." I explained, my voice audible but calm.I didn't get a chance to inform Eric of my current situation while I was inside the office because I was being followed out."When you buy a slave do you ask if they are ready to go w
Lucas's pov:We drove silently, my attention centralized solely on my phone. I was texting Mario, an old friend who works with the CIA. I wanted him to assist with a background check on Elizabeth Murphy and her entire family. I needed information on her life since I would be keeping her with me.I chose Mario because he was likely to deliver faster and I could trust his research as well. Once we arrived inside the building, I enjoined Ray to inform Ms. Gaga to meet me in the hallway leading to the living room. "Where are we headed?" Mira asked shortly after Ray's evanescence."I'm in no mood for your endless talks. Don't ask questions and just move your stiff legs," I shunned her, my voice dripping with flint.I was just upset as to how she failed to recognize me. I wouldn't blame her, but I couldn't help it either. Somehow, I think it's best she doesn't remember because she grows totally uncomfortable and maybe starts avoiding me as well. She zipped her mouth, still walking slowly
Kiara's pov:Once we arrived at the kitchen, I met two more women, both had a gray apron in common. "Lizzy, meet Mama Parker and Mama Brown." Florida introduced pointing at the two elderly women, seated together around a circular table located at the center of the room. The two women, who were initially engrossed in their chit chat conversation, walked up to us, their faces plastered with confusion, passing a silent question of who the new face was to Florida."Hi, I'm Elizabeth. You can call me Lizzy, nice to meet you," I smiled at them, extending my hand for a shake."You're so pretty," she giggled, making everyone laugh, "call me Mama Brown, I'm in charge of the kitchen," She accepted my hand, smiling nicely. Mama Brown was black. She had thick eyebrows, a flat, small nose and a round face. Her baggy long gown covered her legs, fitting her fat figure. Her hair was dressed in a perm, she had dim eyes and looked in her late forties."Nice to meet you Lizzy, I am called Mama Parker
Kiara's pov: I stood at the entrance, glowering with pouted lips as I glared at Lucas who had a wide grin on his face. I had thought I wouldn't see him again for the rest of the day but just so it happens that he was everywhere. 'It's his house, girl!' a dull resounded inside my head, reminding me that he owned the place. Ha! He grabbed some baked pancakes on the white glass tray, walking towards me with the juice Mama Brown served him. "You like to play games don't you?" He whispered out of the blue, standing very close to me. I held my breath, as my dancing heartbeat started again. So far, this is the closest we've been. I could feel his breath on my neck as he whispered the words to me. His little chuckle brought me back to reality and before I could ask what he meant, he was gone. I sighed, pulling a seat beside Florida. Mama Parker was seated as well, dipping fried chicken inside her sauce while Mama Brown served the dishes alongside two more youngsters in black and w
