CHAPTER THIRTY (The Restaurant)

All through the journey, we quietly drove with soft music blaring from the speakers. It was a good thing I didn't step into the restaurant to get anything. It was the city's most expensive restaurant. It wasn't a place a middle-class person is found, to talk less of a penniless lady like me.

I was excited to see my favorite restaurant a few pulls away. I signaled the driver where to stop, and he agreed with a nod. When we finally reached, I pointed to the restaurant again when I noticed he wasn’t going in, and instead of the driver pulling over at the restaurant parking lot, he parked at the roadside.

I wasn't getting why he decided to park there, but I assume he was pressed or out of gas. I ignore the thought, whatever the case, it wasn't a concern to me, all I wanted was a good meal. I tried to open the door, but I couldn't. I looked up and lock eyes with the driver, he was looking at me from the rare view mirror.

“Why? What's happening here, why's the door not opening?” I asked
