Chapter 31 – What Can Go Wrong?

(Eve's POV)

I looked glumly at the time on my phone. It was ten after five in the afternoon, but I was still in the office.

Bethany was meeting a client. Bob was on a business trip. Worse, Millicent came and spent the whole morning pestering me by doing little errands for her outside the office. It was not even related to my job. It seemed her job today was to keep me away from Callahan. My boss was okay with it, and if her little tasks for me didn’t require falling in line, I would like it, too.

When I returned from the bank, the last of Millicent’s tasks for me, she was gone, but it was already one. I hoped to have a quick lunch, but Callahan exited his office before I could have a big bite of the sandwich Rosie prepared for me that morning. I bet my face turned crimson when my mouth was wide open, ready to devour the sandwich, at the same time he looked at me.

Callahan frowned and sighed, but he did not say anything. He walked past me and headed to the elevator.
