HAPPINESS

Avery's POV

"Can i get the letter back?" I ask him when he gets back. Now i have found my voice. It was so hard speaking after the vomit. My stomach twisted in knots.

"Aren't you even going to ask what happened to you?" Nicholas's face creases at my question. I hadn't even thought of that possibility. I just thought i was sick because of the wedding stress and what i ate at the wedding.

"Is that all you want to ask about? You were almost dead!" He raises his tone a bit. My face creases in confusion, why is he that angry? It's just a question. I wondered what poison must have rendered me almost lifeless for days.

"What happened?" I ask in a low tone. I'd have asked if i wasn't too excited to get my hands on the letter. He wouldn't understand because he isn't the one who had cut ties with his family for the past eight months.

I was a stranger here in this land. That letter was the thing that connected me back to my family. Would he understand? No.
